Everyone wants to write for many of the big publications on Medium. But we all know their acceptance ratio is pretty small and they reject almost 90% of the stories. We all have tried to submit our stories with them many times. But found nothing but disappointments like rejection, demotivation, etc.

But today I am gonna show you an easy strategy to submit your stories to all those big publications without losing your motivation and breaking your consistency. I am not gonna show you how to get accepted into these publications. Because they have already explained it in their “Submission guidelines” pages. Although I will take you through a way to increase your chances of acceptance, by only 5 or 10 percent.

The Strategy

All you have to do is to increase your workload. I know you got confused, but don’t worry, I will explain it to you. This means If you are a writer who writes four times a week. Then you should start writing five times a week. Four of the stories will be your regular stories and one will be for the big publications.

Then upload four of your stories to the publication you were uploading before. And upload that one extra story to some big publications like The Startup, Entrepreneur’s Handbook, The Writing Cooperative, etc. to receive a chance to get accepted.

If that story gets rejected too, don’t lose motivation. Because that was your extra story and your regular work is going as it was before. You have a great chance to perform various experiments with that one story because it’s not affecting your routine writing.

It also gives you some more advantages. If you got rejected by all the publications, you can upload it to your medium or small-sized publications. This gives you the advantage of an extra story — Extra story means Extra money.

Increase your acceptance rate

As I mentioned above that this strategy will increase your chance by only 5 to 10 percent. This doesn’t mean that you can write about anything. If you do this, you will always face rejection and wouldn’t get a single chance to get accepted.

You have to do some research by reading stories from their publications and reading their submission guidelines to perfectly understand their writing style, story structure, favorite topics, and story length. These are not all you need, you also have to understand what they don’t like and completely avoid those things while writing your stories.

Write your story while keeping the publication in mind for which you are writing the story. If you write a story that matches with “The Startup” and they reject it. Don’t submit it to another one directly, However, change it according to the publication by reading their stories and guidelines and then submit it to them.

It would be a little bit difficult for you to research on a publication and finding out its dos and don’ts, but you have to do it to increase your chance of being accepted to the big publications.

Conclusion

This is a very simple strategy that you can use to increase your chances of being accepted in these big publications without affecting your routine writing. There is only one thing that is a little bit difficult, which is researching for the publication and nothing more than that.

I have just started applying this strategy myself too, to have a chance of being published in these big publications. I will inform you about my new steps.
