In today’s fast-paced life, you need new strategy and self motivation
In today’s fast paced life, you need new strategy and self motivation to be successful in your career. You may be doing work from home or planning to do it for the next coming months because of the ongoing pandemic. When you’re working from home, there may be time when you feel unmotivated or less interested in your day to day work.
And my friend, you are at the right place. Incorporate these tips in your routine and I am sure you are going to see the positive outcome for sure in no time.
1- Start taking ownership of your work — This is applicable at all the levels, even if you just started your career. Whatever the task is, take the full ownership of that task and complete it. If you fail, you will learn a lesson and will do better next time.
Most of the time we wait for others to assign tasks or don’t want to take blame if you think it’s not going to turn out successful.
Taking ownership shows you’re willing to take risks, can lead projects and open to explore areas beyond your comfortable zone. It can even help you to develop interpersonal skills and give you confidence to take more challenges and calculated risks in your career.
2- Think Out Of The Box — Some companies are still figuring out and finding ways to innovate and improve their business, service lines and overall company culture to promote inclusiveness, diverse work environment and collaboration among cross functional teams.
This is a perfect opportunity for you to think beyond the normal ways and find something interesting. Maybe it’s not durable for now or will take long to plan and execute the idea, however at least you will learn to think in creative and innovative ways.
You can start journal your ideas and run with your mentors and leaders. This can be your side hustle (or main hustle) to follow your passion and find what you’re good at and can do better.
3- Seek Guidance From Mentors And People Who Are In Similar Role — Don’t hesitate to reach out and don’t shy away to say a friendly Hi! You can start explaining your current role, your aspiration and you are looking for guidance or training and skills you need to work on.
Another way is to join online communities, Tech communities based on your role and profile and seek guidance from their career and life journey.
4- Learning and Unlearning — When the world is suffering from pandemic, this situation really taught us the power of learning, unlearning and relearning.
When we are rigid and not willing to unlearn and relearn, we always land on choice 1. We become dogmatic in our thinking, and we are not flexible enough to understand that the way we see the world is not the only way to see the world.
This can only happen if employees have the knowledge they need as they perform in their flow of work at the moments of Apply, Solve, and Change.
5- Focus On A Specific Goal — If you’re looking for a job or a career change, it’s not a day job. Sometimes it can take months to find the right job that can fulfill your career aspiration as well as gives time to learn and grow in your career. So it becomes important to focus on one specific goal at a time.
Try to have a three step plan, Planning, Action and Done.
6- Develop A Hobby Outside Work — Job or your career is a part of your life but it’s not your entire life especially when we are working from home full time. It’s important now to develop a hobby that you can enjoy alone or with your family and friends in long term. It can be anything, you can pick and choose. And it will help you to unwind your daily routine as well.
Something you want to learn like a new language, or want to work on your health and fitness, learn to cook or bake. You can include your family, kids or friends.
That will lead me to my next tip.
7-Unwind or Unplug — Life is complex and sometimes outside factors can make life more complicated and uncertain. So it becomes important to be self motivated and self directive with your actions.
Anything that can make you feel good and closer to yourself.
With all the hustle and life struggle we tend to forget to enjoy small routines in our life. Pick a routine and make it interesting in your own way.
Take a trip, join a fitness community, go for a run, have a date night with your partner, read more books, meditate, gardening or have small plants in your balcony, watch your favorite movie or binge watch your favorite show.
8- Be More Empathetic — Year 2020 taught us how life can be uncertain and difficult on many levels. Mental health becomes a priority for people. In fact, for many organizations to keep their employees safe and healthy during a pandemic.
Learn to be more empathetic with your team and people around you. Allow them to be themselves and let them know from time to time that you’re there for them. Show them that you care professionally and personally.
You can start with a 15 mins coffee break or happy hours video call or have a virtual lunch party with your team to hang out and look out for each other.
9- Learn To Invest Money- You might be earning in six or seven figures, know your job is secure and you’re going to continue working for another 20–30 years. However it’s important to think long term about retirement plans, unexpected expenses or live life the way you’re accustomed without making major compromises.
You don’t need to start big, learn about different types of taxes, investment portfolios and wisely invest 20–25% of your salary or income every month. When you reach your mid thirties or in your forties, you can see the tangible differences in your savings and returns.
If you’re new, take a consultant help, ask your friends who have fair knowledge, research online. It’s your hard earned money so research well.
While you’re having a good life now; having a good investment plan can give you more control on your finances and overall life and prepare you for any unprecedented situations. You and your family can feel more secure and less vulnerable in difficult times.
10- Have Patience And Don’t Let Failure Define You — Last but not the least, don’t let failures affect your capabilities and what other people might say or think.
I have been in many difficult situations and didn’t know what to do and how to overcome failures and constant negativity around me. It took me some time but I learned important lessons that made me a better person and improved my decision making skills.
Success is not a one way road and it’s not measurable on any scale. Everyone has different ideas and meaning about success in their career and life.
Have patience and there may be things in your life and career you can’t control. Let them be, focus on what you can do and how you can improve and work on it with perseverance and smartness.
People often don’t talk about failures or hardship they had or have in their career. Most of the time you just see the end result. So it’s important not to let yourself down.
Everyone has their fair share of career struggles and sometimes it’s okay to feel stuck without any directions. Define what you can do better and move on to the next best thing in your career.
Do let me know what comes to your mind when you think about a successful career. To me, it’s to be content with what I do and I am making the world a better place for everyone around me and helping people to reach their potential.
