Small Routine Can Make A Big Difference| Work From Home

You may be stuck inside your house for months by now, unable to leave, while your work hours and home hours blur into one. If you have anxiety about being stuck at home, definitely you are not alone. Here are a few daily routine I follow and I am absolutely sure it will help you stay on track and not go crazy in isolation.
1- Morning Routine — You may be working from home and not commuting to office. Therefore, we have luxury to sleep for more hours. I am not a morning person unless I have to do something important in morning. I struggle to get out of bed and prefer late nights over the early hours of the day. So when my employer suggested that they would start letting us work from home in first week of March 2020, despite all my anxiety and uncertainty over corona virus, I felt a bit relieved.

In a week, working from home I realized I need to have a routine to make sure I am balancing my work and personal life.
First thing, start waking up at the same time every day including weekends (yes, you read it right). We tend to break our routine on weekends and struggle to get back on it on weekdays. It’s difficult for sure initially but after few weeks, you can definitely start waking up a bit early than your usual time.
2- Drink Water — I know drinking water seems like what the heck it is. However, hear me out. Drinking enough water really make a difference in your body and mind. If you’re feeling lazy, lethargic, low, go and drink a cold glass of water.

Simple tip is, keep a recyclable, reusable water bottle with you wherever you’re in your house. Try to keep a goal to drink minimum 2 liters of water every single day and it has zero calories too. So you don’t need to watch your weight scale. There are apps available to track your daily water intake.
3- Work Out — As all gyms are mostly closed or planning to reopen now, you still might hesitate to go there because of ongoing pandemic and one more reason not to work out.

Add 30 minutes work out schedule in your daily routine in morning or evening or whenever you see fit. Nevertheless, make sure you’re doing it. There are many free apps available to keep a track or join online community to get inspiration and motivation to stick to your work outs. 4- Get Some Sun — I am sure many of you would relate, while working from home we are mostly glued to our couches, computer or laptop screen. Get yourself away from couch. Just go for a little walk around your apartment, nearby park and feel the sun and wind. It will definitely brighten your day and mood. Of course, take precaution when you’re going out and keep hand sanitizer with you.
5- Limit Screen Time — We all own multiple devices, phone, iPad, kindle, laptop, TV so it’s not easy to track actual screen time. We all live in FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and keep checking our phone or just scrolling Facebook, Instagram or any other social media without actually paying attention. What to do in this situation.

First, limit to one device at a time. Try not to indulge with multiple devices at the same time. Like watching Netflix on TV or laptop and scrolling down to your social media on phone. I am guilty of that too. It need some self control.
Second, mute unnecessary notifications on phone and on laptop. This way you won’t get distracted while doing your office or personal work.
Third clean up your devices. Uninstall apps that you haven’t used in last 60 days. You might not need these apps after all.
If you still can’t limit screen time, use lock apps options in your phone and iPad. It will lock your apps after a certain time of usage and won’t allow you to access it further.
6- Break the Routine — It’s perfectly alright to break your daily routine once in a while. It will give you sense of control and your brain can learn and adapt things out of routine. Find a thing that you normally won’t do and add in your week.

You can add things like listen to a podcast, cook something that you haven’t cooked in a while, add a new work out in your fitness routine, pick a book that is lying on your shelves for years unread, find an animal shelter in your area and help recused pets or anything you like doing.

These are simple routines, I’ve started following since April 2020 and it really help me with my mental health and anxiety. If I can do it, I am one hundred percent sure you can do it too. The only key is to find things that motivates you and you enjoy doing it.
Why wait, start from today and keep a journal or take a picture to record your day-to-day progress.
