Summary

This web content introduces a 'choose your own' interactive story titled "To the Dimension of the Dark Lake," which is part of the Drabble Story Arc #1: Until Luck Runs Out, inviting readers to engage with the narrative by making decisions that influence the protagonist's fate.

Abstract

The website presents a unique, interactive storytelling experience where the reader actively participates in the narrative's progression. The protagonist, guided by a demoness, is unexpectedly plunged into a fantastical dimension through a mirror, leading to a series of harrowing encounters. These include a perilous fall through a swarm of bees, a plunge into dark waters inhabited by a writhing kraken, and an attack by a hook that emerges from the depths. The story is a continuation of "You Are Dead," a previous installment in the series, and readers are prompted to choose between two paths at the end of the chapter, either to scream for help or to try to unhook themselves from the dangerous situation. The narrative is part of a collaborative project where other writers can contribute their own chapters or start new storylines within the "Choose Your Own Adventure–Collaboration" community on Medium. Additionally, the chapter serves as a response to a writing challenge, incorporating specific elements to meet the criteria of the "Monday Mashup" challenge.

  • By participating in the "Monday Mashup" challenge, the author demonstrates a willingness to engage with and contribute to the broader writing community.
  • The author encourages new contributions to the story, indicating an open and collaborative approach to creative writing.
  • The use of a "choose your own adventure" format reflects a nostalgic nod to a popular storytelling style, while also embracing modern digital platforms for story sharing and collaboration.

DRABBLE STORY ARC #1: UNTIL LUCK RUNS OUT

To the Dimension of the Dark Lake

A chapter of a ‘choose your own’ story — Drabble edition!

This is a continuation of You Are Dead, a Choose Your Own Adventure Story — Drabble Edition started by Bradan Writes Stories. Find out how to contribute here, or return to the previous chapter here, written by Sieran Lane.

“There’s a good kid,” says the demoness, patting your cheek. “Now, how’s your swimming?”

“Uhh…”

She grabs your hand and leads you to a full-length mirror.

Is she crazy?

But she leads you right into it, and you find yourself falling through a magical doorway.

Falling… through a stinging, swarm of bees!

“Argghh!”

Then: *splash*

You’re in black water. A vast writhing kraken looms above.

The demoness turns and swims for shore. A bloated mouse floats nearby; you grab it, but it suddenly sinks as if made from rock.

And from below, a hook emerges and slashes into your cheek…

You decide to…

  1. Scream for help from the demoness (click here).
  2. Try to unhook yourself (click here).

This is a collaborative story and you can add a chapter with an alternative path, or a whole new story of your own if you like! Come join us at Choose Your Own Adventure–Collaboration to contribute, or check out the examples below.

I also used this chapter to tackle Bradan Writes Stories’s 3rd ‘Monday Mashup’ challenge. You can find details below, or visit the Kraken Lore publication:
