Summary

A freed demoness betrays the protagonist after they call for her help, leading to a dire situation underwater.

Abstract

In a "choose your own" story titled "Until Luck Runs Out," part of the Drabble Story Arc #1, the protagonist finds themselves in peril after releasing a demoness. Expecting assistance in return, the protagonist is instead met with a cruel smirk as they struggle against being dragged into the depths of dark waters. Despite their efforts to signal for help, the demoness shows no intention of aiding them. As their vision tunnels and air runs out, the protagonist succumbs to the inevitable end, realizing the demoness's deceitful nature. The story concludes with the option to restart the adventure from the beginning.

Opinions

  • The protagonist's expectation of reciprocity from the demoness is unmet, suggesting a theme of betrayal.
  • The demoness's reaction to the protagonist's distress, characterized by a self-satisfied smirk, implies malevolence and a lack of empathy.
  • The narrative conveys a sense of desperation and hopelessness as the protagonist's attempts to survive are futile.
  • The story's conclusion, with the option to replay from the start, indicates a cyclical or repetitive nature to the adventure, possibly hinting at the protagonist's resilience or the allure of second chances.

You scream for help from the demoness. After all, you freed her: she owes you now, right?

Bubbles spew from your mouth and your arms flail frantically as the line begins to drag you downwards, deeper into the dark water.

You reach for her, becoming more and more desperate. To your horror, the demoness is watching you with a self-satisfied smirk on her face. She has no trouble being underwater. She’s not in distress at all!

Your vision begins to tunnel and you exhale the last of your air bubbles. The pain in your cheek fades along with your consciousness.
