Time to Let Go
Day 68: Letting go of thoughts and emotions that hold us back

There is a thick mist of moisture outside today, coupled with dense, gray smoke from the forest fires all around Oregon. Conditions are improving in some areas, bringing renewed hope. I am grateful for the safety of those I love. As cinnamon sticks and cloves simmer away on our stove, clearing the air in our home, I am contemplating the notion of letting go today. On my 100-day spiritual journey I am exploring the book Letting Go by David R. Hawkins.
Last night my husband and I had a conversation about what we would do if we had to evacuate. It is a thought exercise in letting go, only bringing with us what we truly need and a few things close to our hearts. We are fortunate that we are in a very safe zone, but it is a good idea to plan out what we would do in case of an emergency.
Letting go is like the sudden cessation of an inner pressure or the dropping of a weight. It is accompanied by the sudden feeling of relief and lightness, with an increased happiness and freedom. — David R. Hawkins
As a professional organizer, I help people let go of physical objects that are standing in their way of personal freedom. I also believe that there are thoughts and emotions that we hold deep in our souls. When we are able to let go of those, our spirit becomes lighter, we are free!

I believe that life is a continual process of letting go. The more layers of guilt, shame, and fear we can toss away, the more radiant our spirit becomes. I feel that I am in that process right now, and I always will be letting go a little bit each and every day. That is the beauty of life. We are always in the process of becoming more.
The great value of knowing how to surrender is that any and all feelings can be let go of at any time and any place in an instant, and it can be done continuously and effortlessly. -David R. Hawkins
I have learned so much about surrender in the past few days. It is natural to be fearful in the face of danger. We feel fear when we contemplate the loss of so many things. If we can let go, bit by bit, we are becoming someone who can discover the beauty of life wherever we are.
My prayer and my intention for you today is that you find a thought that you can let go of today. Surrender that thought, let it float away. You will feel lighter when you allow it to leave your consciousness.
What thought can you let go of today?
