This Side Hustle Helps Her Earn $15,000 A Month
5 side hustles that are fun and could allow you to leave your full-time job!
The gig economy is growing, thanks to the Internet and people willing to work as gig workers. The benefits of being a gig worker include the ability to set your own hours, work when you want, work independently and make as much or as little as you want.
Another benefit is that some gig workers don’t even require a resume or a job interview!
Being part of the gig economy is amazing, and if you are looking for work, or would like to explore other employment options, I have created a list of 5 side hustles that offer amazing money and independence.
- Dog Walking
If you don’t own a dog or have owned a dog, this is a perfect job for you. You get a chance to be outdoors and spend time with someone else’s furbaby!
I walk dogs occasionally and I can attest to the fun and excitement of meeting and walking a new dog. It’s also a great way to get exercise and destress at the same time. I am listed as a dog worker on a local app and whenever I want to walk someone’s dog, I click on the option and after being approved by the owner, show up and start walking!
I had the opportunity to walk a local dog for about 1 month while the owner got better after an injury. I can tell you that it didn’t seem like work at all!
I got paid about $10 for 15 minutes of dog walking and my rates increased the longer I walked.
You can find dog walking jobs online on sites such as Rover, or you can post yourself as a dog walker on your local community center, or on a classified site, such as Craigslist.
You can also work as a pet sitter or a pet boarder. Salary varies depending on the company that you work for but the average base salary is about $18.46 per hour for walking a pooch. Better than minimum wage!
If you are good with business, you can also consider starting your own dog walking business. With the pandemic drawing to a close, most people are heading to the office, and this is a great time to offer dog walking services for housebound animals. As an independent dog walker, you can set your own rates!
2. Delivery Driver for people or food.
If you own a car or bike, this is a great way to earn income. Companies like Uber are always on the hunt for reliable people who can deliver people or food.
The average salary of an Uber driver in the US stands at about $28,928 per year. Common benefits at Uber include:
- health insurance
- dental insurance
- vision insurance
A recent opening on Indeed shows a Uber driver job paying $2,540 a month in Missouri. If you like to drive and have a reliable vehicle, this could be the job to consider! Please take into account fees for gas, car maintenance, and other upkeep before considering a job as a driver.
Drivers are always needed and one company, Lyft, is offering a $500 signing bonus. Drivers can also accept tips!
3. Crossing Guard
If you have followed my blogs, you may have come across my articles about working as a crossing guard. People who work as crossing guards love their work and one person told me he would do it for free!
If you only want to work for a few hours a day, this job is perfect for you. You get to enjoy the fresh air as well as take on the job of taking kids and adults across the streets safely. I get paid fairly well for doing this job which I do on an on-call basis, but salaries vary depending on where you live.
The average salary for working a few hours a day for crossing guards in the US is $19,500. Most people who consider crossing guard jobs are retired or just require a job for a few hours a day. My colleague who works as a crossing guard doesn’t need the money and he tells me any extra income he gets is enough to buy goodies for his grandchildren.
When I was a child, I had the good fortune of having a regular crossing guard, who looked like a grandfather, and who was always kind and gentle. Nowadays, crossing guards can be young or mature and I regularly pass by an afternoon crossing guard who is twenty-something. If you want to be a crossing guard, check with your local school district for openings.
I wrote about my experience as a crossing guard here.
4. Fiverr
I am currently working on and off Fiverr as a gig worker. I make some decent money when I choose to work. If you have a talent for graphic design, writing, editing, computer work, or translation, Fiverr could be for you!
For example for this month, I stand to clear approximately $180 for completing 3 fun gigs. I admit that working on these gigs made me forget to buy my weekly online lotto tickets, so doing online work saves me from spending my hard-earned money!
Like most people, I started charging only $5 per gig and gradually increased my fees. To date, I hold 78 five-star reviews and have completed 107 gigs with an average selling price of $17.32 Canadian.
My last completed gig was to do research and data entry and I charged $70US.
One voiceover artist makes $15,000 a month on Fiverr! Her name is Redd Horrocks and she started on Fiverr in 2013. Her gigs include voiceover work, explainer videos, ebooks, radio, and other projects. She works 30 hours a week and her projected income for the year is $150,000, according to one report. She got more sales after posting demo samples and she attributes this to her increased income.
Another gig worker, a resume writer, makes up to $48,000 a month on Fiverr. Her name is Charmaine Pocek, and after a year in, she got to be a level 2 seller which allowed her to make even more money and name her own prices.
It’s hard to believe the income of what some people are earning, but if you live in the San Francisco area, Fiverr might have another upcoming seller conference which I attended a few years ago. You can hear sellers provide real-life testimonies of how they are making massive earnings on Fiverr! Hear it for yourself!
Incredibly, I have only 2 gigs up but I am regularly doing work for clients. I am a Level 1 seller and can name my own prices! One potential buyer even had an open checkbook. I had a chance to create a custom offer on a considerably large project. I passed on the project because I didn’t think I could do it, but maybe that was a mistake. Next time, I will give it my best shot and write about the experience.
These days, I still name my own prices for medium-sized projects because a lot of gigs take many hours to complete and $5 just doesn’t cut it. Unless you provide templates — that’s doable!
You can find Fiverr here.
5. Writer on Medium
I love working on Medium as a writer. But did you know you can get paid for this? Thanks to the Medium partner program, after getting 100 followers, you can apply to get paid every time someone on Medium reads your article.
Some people are making a considerable fortune writing on Medium and that’s for writing on whatever topic you choose. I got my 100 followers within a few weeks and started earning almost immediately.
My target income is to make an income increase from 2 figures to over 3 figures a month! I am well on my way to a 3 figure income, with my Medium earnings double that of last month!
One writer made $100 in 24 hours by reposting his old farming articles. That’s an amazing strategy and you can republish any old articles onto the site and start earning — just be sure to mention where your previous article was first published.
It’s estimated that Medium gets about 44 million visits per month from search engines, so the number of views can help you get more sales if you have an affiliate product or want visits to your own website.
If you want to start making money on Medium, you have to join as a paid member and get 100 followers. It’s easy to get this on Medium and once you start writing, your earnings will pay for your membership fee and give you extra income, too.
Medium has a great community and if you are on the site on a regular basis, you will meet fab writers like David Perlmutter (who engages with tons of Medium writers, including myself and Jenn Leach (great side hustle articles) and many publications like this one are also helpful.
That’s all today. Here is a shoutout to one of my followers.
