This Is Why We Need To Spend Time With Ourselves.

We neglect ourselves for far too long. It is time we think for ourselves before others. And no, this is not being selfish. This is about Mental Health.

When was the last time we focused on ourselves? I suspect that we cannot recall. We have been too busy, our social media accounts are too noisy, and the people around us keep siphoning our attention away from us.

Is that you? If so, hey — It is time to focus on yourself.

At least for this festive period. This is why.

We have been marching to the drumbeats of others for the entire year. We subordinate ourselves to others in terms of priority.

It could be as simple as a dietary choice for lunch. We might want to have a vegetarian, and lunch with colleagues meant that our preferences are sacrificed for the group’s interests. We end up having an intercontinental buffet.

It could be as simple as knocking off from work. We might want to continue and finish our report in the office late into the night. Maybe we want to start the next day without any carry-over. A call from our spouse and all bets are off.

It could be as simple as wanting to go for an evening beer on a Friday evening. The team has just completed a client presentation and feeling light-hearted. All it takes is for the influencer in the group to suggest night-riding, and the alcohol session evaporates.

There are too many variables in social dynamics. We control too little.

I think that is the reason we often feel upset. We don’t get to do what we want to. Instead, we have to do what we have.

We can do something different this festive season. We can do all things for ourselves.

First and foremost — Disconnect from the World.

Book a hotel room for ourselves for a couple of days.

Schedule the day the way we want it. Plan for a gym in the morning, a spa after that, and a good lunch in-room on the balcony.

Leave the tray in front of the room door and shut the door. It is okay to do that. The tray will be gone when we open the door the next time. Attendants are supporting our spoilt behavior.

I am not saying that we take advantage of the hotel staff. I am proposing that we can pamper ourselves once in a while.

Read all we can, whatever genres we like. Put our phones away. Read at the balcony and leave the phone in the bed. Stay away from distractions.

We can take a walk by the beach and feel that breeze going in between our hair. Walk to the edge of the beach and throw some pebbles along the way. Compete with kids to see who can throw the furthest.

Have fun.

Be free.

Plan no schedule.

And ultimately, that is because … we should not need an itinerary for ourselves.

We can do what we want, even if it is just for a couple of days. We deserve it.

We live our life.

Love Ourselves!
