Coaching
This is HOW I Coach
Part 2 — My ‘HOW’ as a coach in a corporate world
Coaching is a skill that I’m enjoying developing and learning. Following the previous article mentioning the purpose and my ‘WHY’ of coaching, here I am sharing my HOW.
According to the HBR article,
For companies to thrive, employees need to feel as though they are on an open-ended journey of discovery, of which unpredictability is a key part.
This is where coaching helps. It clears the mist of unpredictability and focuses on gaining clarity through a thought-provoking and creative process of maximizing the potential. And we all know, clarity is essential to make better decisions, creating clever strategies, and finding focus and direction in life.
If you are my client, here’s what you’d expect from our partnership as a Coach & Coachee/Client in the Coaching journey.
Step 1: Coaching Chemistry
I will invite you to a short chemistry session to understand if we are the best fit to start the coaching journey. Here we will discuss,
- understanding of coaching
- the need & expectations of coaching
- our coaching structure
- my competency as a coach
Step 2: Agree on Ways of Working
To make the most of our partnership, we will agree on our ways of working during the chemistry session and review them after every coaching session. This agreement includes,
- a coaching contract, which is a mutual agreement of our partnership towards achieving your goals
- duration & frequency of our sessions
- setting boundaries of what is acceptable & whatnot
- committing to working towards goals
- withdrawal from coaching
Step 3: Coaching
This is the actual coaching session where I will offer you the below behaviours following the Global Code of Ethics for Coaching & Mentoring. During coaching, you will
- be the focus
- lead the conversations
- find yourself in a thinking environment
- be challenged positively but not stressfully
- gather new insights and ideas
- hold yourself accountable for your actions toward your goals
- commit to change
As a coach, I
- ensure high confidentiality remains between us
- have high positive regards for you
- will be curious but never judgmental
- will create a safe space for critical reflections
- will be non-directive
- will ask you probing questions to help you build new perspectives
The best journeys in life are those that answer questions, you never thought to ask. — Rick Ridgeway
In short, I will help you bridge the gap between your performance and your potential by removing the behavioural interferences. You will see the difference in what you are and what you're becoming once you start being coachable.

When the student (coachee) is ready, the teacher (coach) appears.
