We recently got news on its release date, but it’s later than expected.

So, in some of my earlier stories, I’ve talked about various FPS games and even games getting turned into movies. You can find the links to those at the end of this post.

But right now, I wanna focus on the awesome Borderlands game series and spill some tea on the latest news about the Borderlands movie! Let’s dive into it!

What is Borderlands?

Borderlands is an epic, kickass video game series that’s all about shooting, looting, and wild adventures across the planets of Pandora and beyond! Picture a wicked blend of action, RPG, and first-person shooter elements, and you’ve got yourself Borderlands.

So, here’s the deal: the game takes place in a post-apocalyptic universe, where everything’s gone haywire, and lawlessness rules the day. There’s chaos everywhere, and life ain’t easy, my friend. But hey, that’s where you come in! You get to pick your badass Vault Hunter from a bunch of unique characters, each with their own skills and abilities.

Once you’ve chosen your champion, it’s time to dive headfirst into the madness. You land on Pandora, a gritty, desert-like planet brimming with psychos, monstrous creatures, and lethal bandits out for your blood. Your ultimate goal?

To find and open the legendary Vault, a cache rumored to contain untold riches and alien tech. But beware, plenty of twisted foes are also after it, and they won’t be throwing a tea party when you arrive.

The game is wicked famous for its sick art style, a mix of cel-shading and comic book aesthetics that make everything pop with personality. It’s like stepping into a living, breathing graphic novel.

What makes Borderlands a cut above the rest is its heavy focus on co-op gameplay. You can join forces with your buddies and wreck havoc together. The more, the merrier! Teamwork and coordination are crucial to surviving the endless waves of enemies and humongous bosses that’ll try to stomp you flat.

And let’s talk about the guns. Borderlands boasts an insane amount of weapons — bazillions, they say — and each one is procedurally generated. That means you’ll rarely stumble upon the same gun twice. They come in all flavors, from simple revolvers to rocket launchers that spit explosive death. It’s like having a loot lottery every time you blast open a crate or take down a baddie.

With each kill and quest you complete, you gain experience points, level up, and unlock skill trees that boost your abilities even further. It’s all about building your perfect Vault Hunter, tailored to your playstyle — whether you prefer to go in guns blazing or snipe from a distance.

But wait, there’s more! The series has seen multiple installments, each building upon the last, introducing new characters, crazy storylines, and a whole galaxy of planets to explore. From the desolate wastelands of Pandora to the neon-lit cityscapes of Promethea, you’re in for a wild ride.

A Borderlands movie?

Good news for all you Borderlands fans! The Borderlands movie finally has a new release date: August 9, 2024. I know, it feels like forever, but hey, at least we’ve got something to look forward to!

So, here’s the deal — Craig Mazin, the writer who did Chernobyl and The Last of Us, was initially involved with the movie, but he’s stepped away from the project now. No worries though, it’s pretty common for movie scripts to change and get different writers as they go along, right?

The movie wrapped up shooting back in June 2021, but they had to do some re-shoots, which pushed the release date further out. That happens, you know, gotta get things just right!

Anyway, the cast is looking awesome! We’ve got Oscar-winners Jamie Lee Curtis and Cate Blanchett, and guess who’s playing Claptrap? Jack Black! Can’t wait to see him in action. There’s also Kevin Hart as Roland, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, and Janina Gavankar as Knoxx. It’s gonna be epic!

And get this, the movie’s directed by Eli Roth. The creator of Borderlands, Randy Pitchford, mentioned that the movie exists in its own “Borderlands Cinematic Universe,” separate from the games. But don’t worry, it’s still considered canon in its own world.

Some folks were wondering if the movie is canon to the game series, but Pitchford cleared that up on Twitter. The movie’s canon to the cinematic universe, while the games are canon to the video game universe. So, two parallel but awesome worlds!
