The Unspoken Downsides of Using Publications On Medium.
You’re On Their Time.
This month, I’ve been experimenting with publishing my work exclusively in Medium publications.
In the process, I’ve discovered a downside to using publications.
It’s not a terribly big deal. But for writers who aim to publish work every day, you can’t rely on publications to publish your work with a sense of urgency.
Let’s face it, many publications closed shop when Medium “changed for the worse”.
Publications are not paid and are usually run by editors who have lives to live too. They can’t sit behind their computers all day reading, editing, and publishing your work with a sense of urgency.
I can understand. I’m grateful for all the work they do.
But if you’re a writer who's thinking of experimenting with publications like I am, keep this in mind — It can take anywhere between 2–4 days to get your work published when you submit work to a publication.
Be Patient.
Keep writing.
And find alternative publications that don’t require you to submit drafts. (Ones that allow you to publish your work and then add to the publication)
I love ILLUMINATION for this reason.
