After reading my story on famous foods to try in Malaysia, TzeLin Sam asked if I had tried roti tisu. What’s that? It sounds so intriguing, doesn’t it?
Lucky me, I did get to try it!

Wait, What is Roti?
If I were to describe roti, I’d say it’s similar to flatbread or naan. Roti tisue or tissue is a variation of roti you can get in Malaysia at “mamak” stalls. These are basically open food courts you can find almost everywhere! Just like a cafe, you can order things like noodles and tea.
There are many variations of roti you can order. Here are some I have tried before. Psssstttt - I’m not from Malaysia, so I’m only sharing what I’ve experienced through my travels. Feel free to let me know if I have missed anything important!
- Roti Telur — Roti with egg
- Roti Bawang — Roti with onions
- Roti Kosong — Plain roti
- Roti Pisang — Roti with banana
- Roti Planta — Roti with butter
There are many other types and combinations, but these are some popular ones and they are super delicious! For example, I think you can get roti with egg and onions! The possibilities are endless.
So, What About Said Roti Tisu?
And now that we’ve gone through some roti basics, I’m going to share one of the most epic roti meals I’ve ever eaten! When the server brought the food over, we were all astonished. Actually, everyone around us was staring too. Why?
Can you hold on to something as I unveil this masterpiece?……😱

Yes! That is what the server delivered when we ordered roti tisue! I have never seen it made with such height before. We didn’t even know how to eat it. Should we break it from the top or just tear into it? There must be so much skill involved in making it. Maybe we can even enter it as a contender for a world record!
That was indeed the most epic roti I’ve ever eaten. So far, nothing has topped it. Oh, and it was delicious!
So, if you have never had roti, I highly recommend this as a must-eat food if you visit Malaysia. There are a ton of different styles, there has to be one that’s just right for you. And on that note, let me leave you with one more scrumptious photo…
Are you drooling now? 🤤
