9 Famous Foods to Try in Malaysia (Part 2)

Did you check out Part 1 first?

I swear, I am not always eating..(photo provided by Linda Ng)

Alright, in Part 1 (link below!), I already went through 9 great foods to try in Malaysia. But there are so many goodies, I can’t stop there. Here are 9 more mouth-watering foods to try!

(1) Cendol

There’s nothing like a refreshing dessert! Look no further, this bowl of cendol will quench your thirst in no time. This delicious dessert of jelly noodles, coconut milk, and syrup. I really love cendol, but I don’t have it every time I go to Malaysia. This is because I’m afraid it will give me a stomach ache! If you have this, make sure order from a clean place.

(2) Roti

Hands down, this is my favourite food from Malaysia. I have it every single time I go! There are many different toppings to choose from, like bananas or onions. I love all of them, except the spicy ones! It’s also very cheap, so feel free to eat as much as you like.

(3) Kuih

Aside from cendol, kuih is my next favourite dessert. When I go to Malaysia, I only allow myself to have one piece though. Why? Because it’s basically a few spoonfuls of sugar. 🤣 It tastes so good though! It doesn’t help that it’s always so colourful and pretty too.

(4) Kaya Toast

I’ll have kaya toast all the time when I’m in Malaysia! It’s too addicting. It’s a great breakfast item and a great dish to share with others. Why would I want to share something so delicious? It’s because a lot of kaya toast can be too heavy. It is made with butter and kaya, a delicious combination.

Kaya is a creamy and sweet coconut spread, so having a lot can make me feel a bit queasy. It’s hard to stop though! I want to eat that whole stack there.

(5) Char Kway Teo

This is a staple dish for me too. Char Kway Teo is a plate of fried noodles, with toppings like egg, bean sprouts, and shrimp. The smell is so aromatic, it makes my stomach growl! I can easily devour this plate myself, minus the spicy sauce!

(6) Popiah

Popiah can be thought of as a spring roll or Asian-style burrito. It’s filled with various shredded veggies and some meat. For some reason, I am not a fan of it, so I usually don’t eat this when I go. I never acquired the taste for this, but it’s still worth a try.

(7) Rojak

This is a refreshing dish of sliced veggies and fruit. I love veggies and fruit, but for some reason, I don’t like this dish. I think it’s the spicy sauce that comes along with it! I suppose I could just eat the veggies and fruit on its own. This is a favourite for many people, so don’t miss trying it out.

(8) Ba Kut Teh

I can’t sing enough praises about this delicious meal! Ba Kut Teh is a flavourful pork dish, boiled in a mouth-watering broth. It’s often served with bean curd and lettuce. The broth is a wonderful combination of herbs and spices and goes well with rice.

I absolutely must have this whenever I go!

(9) Lobak

There are different variations of lobak, but it’s basically fried meat wrapped in bean curd. That sounds delicious, doesn’t it? Ingredients often include shrimp, water chestnuts, and other veggies.

Malaysia is THE place to go if you love to eat. There is something for everyone, even someone like me who can’t eat spicy food. I always gain at least 5 pounds whenever I go. Anyone would gain weight if you are constantly going from restaurant to restaurant!

So, do you think there is anything I missed? What have you tried on this list? Please share your thoughts with me in the comments below!
