The Magic of TK, Foodie Poems and Consuming Less
Join the Conversation and Pay it Forward

Nurturing growth and success is up to every one of us
I’m writing a series of feature articles to discuss and illustrate the innovative ways we are collaborating on Illumination.
To keep it interesting, I’ll shine a light on solutions to some of your difficulties and answer any questions that come to me each day.
I’ll also share one of the many ways I have discovered to connect with fellow writers and readers.
Well hello there.
In case we’ve never met, I’m Tree Langdon, an editor here at Illumination. I’m continuously inspired by the talented writers I’ve met here. I’d really like to get to know you too.
Writers Can Make Meaningful Change!
There are some trailblazing, collaborative projects being developed at Illumination.
Dr. Mehmet Yildiz has begun a new way for us to share information and collaborate. He’s supporting the creation of Illumination Projects.
The Urban Food Project is shining a light on various creative ways to support food security in our communities.
Our Consumer Society
Here is a thoughtful discussion on Consuming Less by Paroma Sen. She begins with a poem that reflects on how a minimalist dreads receiving gifts.
“I don’t want to look a gift horse in its mouth, But I covet experiences more than things, And I have an adequate number of things”
Foodie Poetry
“Tomorrow we’ll eat zucchini. Because it’s easy to grow on our local soil.”
Concrete Actions
If the concept of supporting Urban Food in inner-city food deserts interests you, I invite you to participate.
Join the conversation by reading these interesting articles and commenting if it moves you. We are interested in your opinions and hope you will write articles about projects in your community. Please tag me if you do.

How does Curation Work?
In a nutshell, write quality articles and pay attention to tags, kickers, format, and Medium curation rules.
These stories were successfully curated and distributed to topics in Medium. It’s an excellent resource to study if you are interested in being curated.
I recently wrote about focusing on an Irresistible Post.
Shoot For An Irresistible Post, Not Curation

Here’s my take on curation from when I was a new writer.
Our team of editors and writers are ready and willing to assist you with any questions or problems you may be experiencing.
The key to a meaningful conversation includes both speaking and listening.
A meaningful conversation between writers includes reading, responding, sharing and appreciation.
Keep on reading to see how you can have that conversation, but first, let’s explore your questions about writing.
Answers to your Burning Questions
Do you have a burning question?
This is your opportunity. Add your question as a comment here and I’ll be happy to answer it.
Do you have a terrific tip for our writers? Add it in the comments!
When I first started writing on Medium I struggled with the platform. It wasn’t as intuitive as a Word document. It took me a while to figure how to make it work for me and I’m still learning.
Let’s share our experiences and learn from each other.
Here’s one thing I learned along the way.
How do I prevent myself from accidentally publishing an article?
The answer is two magic letters:
“TK”
TK is a well-known editing notation which means “to come”. It’s a reminder that something needs to be added.
When I’m in the ‘writing groove’, but I need to expand on a concept or do some research, I use TK to remind me to come back and have a look at this area of my story.
If you leave an unfinished TK in your story and hit publish, you will be asked if you are sure you want to publish.

At this point, you can choose to ‘Edit story’ which brings you back to your draft.
Whew, disaster averted.
Here is a collection of my editorial bulletins in a single document for your easy reference.
Writers Connect to Build Engagement!
As a lifelong learner, I gather new ideas by observing how other writers engage with their readers.
If you test any of these ideas for yourself, tag me, Tree Langdon, and let me know how it worked for you.

Meet the Editors
Our Editors are a hardworking group of volunteers that strive to publish your stories as quickly as we can. You can help by ensuring that you credit all your images and use a spell checker or an app like Grammarly. It catches all kinds of spelling and punctuation errors and editors really appreciate it.
Here is our complete list of Editor bios! Discover who they are and what makes them tick.
