A terrible war began in Ukraine. Russia, our favorite petrostate, a place of so many possibilities, can’t seem to ditch its authoritarian past. We commented on it in The Next 100 like many publications but from where we stand.
A lot of people continue to miss the complexities of the conflict. Many can’t seem to examine the entire conflict. They focus upon what fits their narrative only and not all of the conflict.
Some criticize the West (which is accurate) but then forget that the person the West is confronting is really a dangerous authoritarian with no scruples at all. His goals are all bad mostly.
There are Americans who back his goals. America does not have clean hands but it is hard to ignore their foe this time.
When Russia opposed the U.S. invasion of Iraq, and you also opposed it, you were on the side of a country that did not have clean hands then. But Russia took the correct stand.
We also gave you history this month on the Next 100. Music, politics, and life in America. I especially enjoyed writing a very short piece on Smokey Robinson, the Motown legend, the history of a great song.
