Summary

This is a continuation of an interactive, 'choose your own' adventure story titled "The Hare, the Bear and the Goblins," where the protagonist must decide whether to attack a bear after it kills some goblins or continue along the path in a fantasy setting.

Abstract

The narrative follows a character who chooses to flee from danger, opting for speed over protection. After a tense chase through the forest with a bear in pursuit, the protagonist encounters a group of goblins. The bear catches up and dispatches the goblins, providing a potential opportunity for the protagonist to attack it or to continue on their journey. This installment is part of a larger, interactive story where readers can influence the outcome by making choices for the character. The story is presented in a 'drabble' format, which is a concise style of storytelling that typically consists of 100 words. Readers are invited to contribute to the story's progression and are directed to previous chapters and related works by the author.

Double drabble time!

You can run like a rabbit if you choose! Unencumbered by armor you failed to acquire, and relatively unconcerned for Taryn (they’ve got a spear and can protect themselves, right?) you sprint towards the stone path, heading towards the heart of the forest.

The bear charges behind.

You run for some time, panting and sweating, but eventually slow to a walk, glancing behind. You haven’t been caught yet, but it’s definitely not far behind. You feel rather than hear the bear.

You walk rapidly on as the afternoon passes, looking back every minute.

It’s following — there can be no doubt.

You catch a glimpse of the bear occasionally, sniffing then walking on. Its sense of smell will doom you. Even if you cut away from the path, it’ll surely follow…

Then, you hear voices.

You hide behind a large tree, trying to breathe quietly. Three goblins come into sight, heading your way! They chatter noisily as they walk.

You watch as the goblins pass you… and it’s only a matter of time before they meet the bear!

With a few cuffs of its claws, the bear dispatches the goblins… and devours them. Then it lumbers off with a satisfied grumble.

Next up, you…
