The Bad Poetry Day Roundup

Hardly Shakespearean, but I still feel the love

Roses are red, Violets are… Oh, fuck it.

Once upon a time, little Kiki Wellington fancied herself quite the poet. Armed with a marble composition notebook and a beret, she wrote and read poetry constantly, speaking in rhyme to the dismay of any listener she encountered. She even had some verse published along the way, which gave her little adolescent heart much joy and pride.

As my work on Medium has evolved, I’ve taken up poetry again, making my inner angst quite happy. Here is the result — minus the beret — for better or for worse. Is this a celebration of Bad Poetry Day, which happens every year on August 18 to revel in the worst of the worst?

Maybe. But I’ll share this roundup of my recent poems anyway.

The Lick of Lust

This poem ended a long poetry writing dry spell and I decided to try my hand at more after this one.

The View From Up Here

This poem about oral pleasures oddly enough was written while I was listening to a paranormal podcast. Go figure.

Cupid, Put That Bow Away

This is actually my favorite result of this latest foray into poetry writing. It was fun and silly and what can I say? I’m a sucker for Valentine’s Day.

Lull Me

This is one of my sweeter ones and I enjoyed writing it.

Whenever…

This poem is a plea for more.

Your Sweet Face

When I’m feeling lovey dovey, I write things like this.

I Rest

Wow, more romance from my angsty self? Maybe poetry brings out my softer nature these days.

Gratitude

This is a hopeful poem I wrote when I was feeling grateful for past challenges.

I Wilt

Well, that poetic optimism didn’t last long! I was definitely channeling my inner teenage angst when I wrote this one. Whether or not I should write poetry when in a bad mood remains to be seen.

Washed Away

Another melancholic poem, this time with visions of the beach dancing in my head.

The Magnum Man

He thought he needed Magnum condoms…but did he?

Loving the Dream

A moody look at love.
