Abstract

we try to force them to wake up!

In conversation, we talk about esoteric topics such as spirit guides, dark nights of the soul, shadow work, and the afterlife, and when others don’t understand, we shake our heads. We feel superior to those who don’t know the things we know — almost feeling sorry for them for missing out on the wonderful things we are learning.

In our actions, we tell people how lost they are in the matrix. We think we’re better than them.

We point out everything that is wrong with people and the world, and we turn a blind eye to our own egoic behavior. We spiritually bypass because we are always chasing after the light and turning our backs on the darkness that is also stewing within.

During this stage, we wish to be idolized by others. We want everyone to know that we are awakened, so we use social media to display our newfound sense of self. We give ourselves spiritual names such as high priest or priestess, goddess, shaman, guru, divine feminine/masculine, etc. Putting ourselves on a pedestal, we look down on the world.

But pride is a dangerous thing. It can make the greatest spiritual person fall flat on his face.

When we’ve been operating from the ego, old patterns begin to resurface to show us what's still there to work on.

The real test for a spiritual person is to tame and gain control of the spiritual ego, and if we don’t, the universe sends us new challenges because, obviously; we don’t get it!

The Only Thing Worse Than Ego Is a Spiritual Ego

You think someone's ego is big? We see that we’ve got this spiritual stuff wrong. We begin to understand the true purpose of the awakening.

The truth is that we were called to awaken because we were walking down the wrong path and not because we are more special than the one who isn’t awake.

If there’s anyone that needs to do the work, it isn’t the one who is still asleep. It’s the one who has woken up.

When we point a finger at those we believe are asleep and making our lives difficult, we must pay attention to the three that are pointing back.

When you’re still operating from your ego and passing judgement, criticizing other people’s ways and belittling them, your awakening becomes a big bad joke in the eye of the universe.

The universe sees to it that we move our ego into the backseat and let our soul take the wheel. As the ego is removed, it feels like we’re losing our spirituality. This is known as ego death. It is unpleasant because as we walk toward our purpose; we want to feel like we are making progress. It seems like we are starting all over again, but this time we must do it in the right way with the ego in the backseat. We must do some deep inner work and heal old wounds that are showing up in our lives and affecting our actions.

By putting your ego aside, you become emotionally stable, which allows your higher self to lead you. At this point, you no longer seek out feel-good spiritual philosophies and practices. You focus on doing the deep inner work and you stop the judgment and all the negative things you did before.

The universe is always helping us heal and grow, but it is our choice how fast we do the work.

You start to understand that you are not special than the person who is not awake and your journey isn’t better than the spiritually unaware.
<p id="a7

The 3 Stages of The Spiritual Awakening Journey You Won’t Hear Anywhere

Unless you’re God, it isn’t your job to wake anyone up

Stage 1 — Acquiring All Knowledge

The spiritual awakening starts out of nowhere or is caused by a life crisis like a breakup, death, trauma, or other significant life changes.

During this initial stage, you may feel confused, unhappy, or lost. You may feel disconnected from the world and those around you. Looking at the people around you, you feel as if you no longer relate to them.

It’s difficult to comprehend the transformation taking place within you during a spiritual awakening, and so the people around you, if unaware, assume you may have lost your mind.

As a result of this disconnect, you may feel depressed or anxious. Consequently, you begin your search for answers without knowing what you're really searching for. As you search for meaning and purpose in life, you question everything you’ve known.

This questioning stage pulls you out of your life and forces you to discover a deeper meaning. “Why am I here?” “What am I doing here?” and “There has to be more to life than this,” you constantly ask and lamenting.

Trying to gain some clarity, you turn to the internet for help and guidance. You experiment with different metaphysical concepts, mystical ideas, and self-help.

The moment you learn all that you can, you become more aware of yourself, and it’s as if you’re meeting yourself for the first time.

Your previous state of consciousness and unawareness no longer allow you to perceive life in the same way. By becoming aware of the illusions and the delusions of the world, you begin to see the universe and everything in it in a different light. Then you start feeling very good about yourself while you feel bliss.

Stage 2 — Believing You Know Everything

When we keep learning, we begin to feel a sense of expansion as old patterns fall away and we start to emerge as our higher selves. We find spiritual teachers to learn from, spiritual practices to engage in, and belief systems that help us deal with our existential crisis.

There may be moments of enlightenment and mystical experiences that give us a glimpse of what’s out there. This brings us great hope, joy, connection, and we feel awe.

As our knowledge of the universe broadens and we begin to put the pieces together after learning so much, we start experiencing breakthroughs.

But then comes pride.

The moment we establish we’re spiritual, there’s a subtle sense of pride that rises within. We begin to think we have it all figured out and have all the answers about how the world operates.

As we see the world through all of its facades, we begin to understand it more clearly. We then feel the need to lecture people about how they should live their lives and we try to force them to wake up!

Stage 3 — Realizing You Know Nothing at All

When we’ve been prideful, our first reality check hits us.

People aren’t awake because it’s not their time to be. Perhaps, in a previous lifetime, you were fast asleep, and this life is where you do your work.

You begin to truly care about others but you ultimately worry about your own soul. It’s the only one you can control.

Unless you’re God, it isn’t your job to wake anyone up. It’s your job to wake up, evolve, and shine your light so others can see the way.

During this course, we learn what it means to be a true spiritual leader. The more you know, the more you realize how much you don’t know.

Human existence and human behavior become more interesting when viewed from a place behind the ego. Those who experience this are more receptive to opposing information and eager to keep learning because they see there’s always something new to learn, and even those who are asleep have something to teach them.

Once we have come to understand the nature of suffering because we have suffered a great deal, we realize we must educate others in order to help them find freedom from suffering, rather than criticizing them in a controlling and know-it-all manner or forcing them to wake up when it’s not their time.

It becomes apparent that even with all the knowledge we now have about the universe and our ability to see clearly and understand; we do not have all the answers. We don’t have it all figured out and we don’t know everything.

It is at this point that you can truly experience the most profound and lasting changes on your awakening journey. This is the state they call nirvana. If you want those you love to experience it too, you guide them by example, rather than judging, preaching to, or lecturing them.

Then our lives become less about us and more about truly helping others. That’s when you start to feel connected to all, at peace, and deeply aligned with God, yourself, and the entire universe.
