Self-Love
Dancing Elephants Press Prompt 17 of 52
Taking care self and self will take care of you.
Thank you for this lovely prompt Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles
I have been thinking in the last week or so about Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles’s prompt and thinking how I do practice self-love.
- I take time to do things I enjoy: reading, writing, spending time with family and friends.
- Spending time taking care of our animals and playing with them. Playing with our dogs and cats brings me joy and would go under my self-love category.
- Spend time outside in nature. Love walks, gardening, walking barefoot on the land.
- Drinking tea. There is something beautiful about creating and drinking a nice blend of tea. Taking time to make the tea and taking time to slowly drinking it is calming and relaxing for me.
- I do breathing exercises and slow, gentle movements and stretching. I have been doing different movements and different types of breathing exercises with different intentions. An example is below.
- I practice humming and sing.
- Practice reiki, go to acupuncture and beach walks when I can.
- Travel as often as I can and visit new places.
- I repeat my favorite mantra I created for myself during a meditation practice:
“ I am love, I am joy, I am gratefulness. My home is stillness”
Short Breathing Exercise by Gabriella
I would like you to think of the intention and goal that you have for your health and well-being. Let’s take some nice deep breaths.
Slowly breathe in for the count of four. Breathe into your lungs and keep moving the air down to your belly, gently hold your breath for the count of four, slowly breath out on the count of four and hold your breath to the count of four. Hold your intention here for a few seconds before taking in another breath. This helps increase your lung capacity. Focus on the feeling of your breath, the air going in and out of your lungs.
Let’s repeat this one more time.
Slowly breathe in for the count of four to your lungs and keep moving the air down to your belly, gently hold your breath for the count of four, slowly breath out on the count of four and hold your breath to the count of four. Hold your intention here for a few seconds before taking in another breath.
Now think of the intention and goal that you have set for yourself. Imagine the relief it will provide for your body to be able to function better. Feel the positive intent bringing new energy and hope throughout your body. Sit with this feeling of positivity and newly found energy for a few moments while gently breathing in and out.
With the next breath, I would like you to imagine that you are bringing in beautiful bright and fresh air to your lungs as you are taking a breath and collecting used-up air and any harmful chemicals that are in your body and letting them go as you breathing out. Feel free to repeat this process as many times as you feel necessary until you breathe easier.
Thank you for your time and intention,
Gabriella
