Abstract

The text discusses the common resistance to undertaking difficult tasks necessary for achieving dreams, attributing this resistance to an underlying fear of sacrifice. It suggests that individuals often prefer the certainty of their current situation, even if it is unhappy, over the uncertainty of pursuing their true aspirations. The article encourages readers to confront their fear of hard work, commitment, and uncertainty by convincing themselves of their ability to withstand sacrifice and build trust in their own capabilities. It argues that by committing to personal growth and accepting the necessity of change, individuals can transform their lives and avoid the regret of inaction. The author asserts that success is attainable and that the power to achieve it lies within each person, waiting to be harnessed through dedication and effort.

Opinions

  • The fear of sacrifice is the primary obstacle preventing individuals from achieving their dreams.
  • People tend to cling to the stability of their current circumstances, even if they are miserable, to avoid the risks associated with change.
  • Self-talk and self-trust are crucial in overcoming the fear of the hard things required for personal growth.
  • The idea of sacrifice is often overly romanticized, leading to inaction rather than productive change.
  • Hope alone is insufficient; it must be coupled with action and a commitment to the necessary sacrifices.
  • The certainty of success cannot be guaranteed, but through perseverance and hard work, one can significantly increase the likelihood of achieving their goals.
  • Successful individuals are not inherently different from others; they are regular people who have consistently applied themselves to their craft.
  • The fear of regret from not pursuing one's dreams should be a stronger motivator than the fear of failure or sacrifice.
  • Personal power is immense but underutilized; individuals must tap into their inner strength to effect meaningful change in their lives.
  • The pursuit of one's capabilities and purpose is more fulfilling and less regrettable than a life of inaction and comfort in misery.

Sacrifice. You’re Terrified Of It (And It Shows)

Here’s how to convince yourself that you’re not scared of the hard things.

Your resistance to doing the hard things you know you need to do in order to accomplish your goals is simply some form of fear.

You push back on your dreams because you’re terrified of them.

You’re scared to commit because you don’t know if it will work out. True, 100% commitment means you will have to sacrifice.

At least you have stability in your misery. At least you have a bit of certainty about where you’ll end up. At least the future at the end of your neglect has fewer “blurry spots”.

You’d rather ignore the hard things and fail than give it your all and fail. Accepting a life of sacrifice and resilience with no guarantee of success isn’t appealing to you.

You’re scared of the sacrifice you will have to make to become the person you want to be. It’s all just that, isn’t it? Sacrifice. You’re terrified of it, and it shows.

You know that the more you are willing to give up to pursue those dreams that set your soul on fire, the greater the chances of success.

The problem is the “giving up” part.

You know that in order to actualize the life you want for yourself you will have to give up things you’ve become too accustomed to.

You realize that you might have to cut off some relationships, and I’m not just talking about people. You might have to cut off your relationship with social media, TV, sleep, certain foods, certain habits, etc.

The personal growth information you’ve absorbed up until this point has laid out many reasons for why you fail to accomplish your dreams I’m sure, but the one thing that governs all is your fear of sacrifice.

You have to tell yourself that you’re not scared of the hard things.

Tell yourself that you’re not scared of the pain, the sacrifice, the commitment, or the uncertainty.

No one realizes the power of self-talk until they actually believe the things they say to themself. You won’t believe yourself until you start doing those things you say you are going to do. You have to convince your mind of your commitment.

Here’s the key to life: Take yourself seriously, but not life itself.

You have to convince yourself that you are a person you can trust, step by step. You don’t have to start all big, or else you will surely fail. Slowly build momentum and convince yourself of your capability.

You place the idea of sacrifice on too high of a pedestal. You think too much and do too little. Make it your 2023 mantra to talk less and actualize more.

Think about everything I said earlier: You are pushing back on the life you know deep down that you want for yourself. You know you want this, so why let the fear of pursuing it override the fear of not doing it?

You have to flip that around.

Think about what happens when you continue to sulk in the comfort of your misery.

You’re miserable because you know that despite how good it may feel to ignore the hard things, it’s killing you.

You’re miserable because you know that even though ignoring the life you want is killing you, you can put up with the pain all the way until the deathbed, but then it will be too late.

You are certain of this. And yet, you still have hope you will turn it around. But here’s the thing: hope is shit.

You’re only scared of the sacrifice because you know you can’t keep it up. You have to be patient and resilient. You have to tell yourself that if you are going to sacrifice, you will go for your dreams 100%. If it’s going to kill you to give these things up, then go all out to ensure it wasn’t a waste.

You will avail. It won’t be for naught.

You have to create the certainty that you will succeed. There may be no guarantees, but you can push the probability so high that it damn sure seems like one.

Be so good that they can’t ignore you. Create the inevitability of your actualized dreams by getting the hell to work.

Too many have done it and showed you how for you to think that you somehow can’t.

Successful people are regular humans. Stop placing regular humans who grinded on so high of a pedestal to make yourself feel better about your failure.

Stop making the idea of people who are putting their heads down and using their time to develop their craft and alien concept to you.

The extent of your power has no limits, but you haven’t even begun to tap into it.

You’re so deep in your shit you can’t even fathom what it means to change. You’re overwhelmed. You’ve tried and tried to do the hard things and have failed time and time again that no one can sell you on change. It’s all BS to you.

Or so you tell yourself.

The only way to find comfort in your misery is to lie to yourself, and it kills you because you aren’t really convincing yourself deep down.

You know that you’re just giving up. You have to realize you don’t have time.

You will die one day, and it’s up to you to decide if it will be with regret.

You are scared of trying again and failing, but you’re not really trying if you don’t sacrifice.

You’re not really trying if you don’t do the work daily over the long haul. You’re not really trying if you aren’t giving up the things standing in the way. You’re not really trying if you avoid accepting that this new life you want will require a different you.

You have to commit.

You have to realize that since you’ve tried and failed to do the hard things up until this point, you’ve spent countless hours convincing yourself that “maybe it’s just not meant to be”. Why not spend the same energy to convince yourself that it is?

Why continue to involve yourself in the pain of not doing over doing? The latter may feel harder, but is it really?

Is it not harder to regret your everyday existence than it is to pursue your dreams?

To pursue your capability? To pursue meaning and purpose? To pursue what the silent voice tells you?

What does your soul tell you?

You are powerful beyond measure, but you won’t see it now.

No, not now.

You have some convincing to do. You have some trust to create within. It will take time, but I promise you, it will be worth it.

Stop killing yourself and start living. I truly want what’s best for you, but I can’t want it more for you than you want it for yourself.

Tell yourself you’re not scared of the hard things. I know how hard it is to do so, believe me. I still battle with it today. You have to remind yourself you are capable of achieving your wildest dreams. Capable is enough. Capable means it’s possible, and that should feel exciting. Channel that excitement into action. I’d rather spend my life pursuing capability than regret.

Life is hard, but without a mountain to overcome, we spend our time wondering if it’s worth it sulking in the valley. Deep down, you wouldn’t want it any other way. You don’t want it to be easy, you just want to be better.

So be better. Relax. Don’t give more power to the hard things than it needs—that just makes it harder. This thing isn’t above you. It’s in front of you, just not yet in your grasp.

Luckily, you can mold a mind that has the means and intent to reach it.
