WRITING

Rainbow Treats!

Day 15: What treats will you reward yourself with during NaNoWriMo?

Rainbow Circus Treats

Um, this is interesting. If I had been asked this question a few weeks ago, it would have been easy. I would have been trying to plan out and manage a way to have SUGARY treats and goodies while consciously efforting to not overdo it. But a strange thing happened on the way to me.

If you are not familiar with my other work or my journey, let me give you the shortest version possible. I’ve had a lifelong hormone deficiency which is now being treated and one of the nice side effects is that I am no longer craving sugar. So sugary treats = meh!

You can read more on that and my HRT journey here:

So, I’m going to ‘reward’ myself in other ways. The next issue is… with what? Because here’s the thing, I live out of a suitcase. I mean that quite literally. I am a full-time house and pet sitter, I travel around and stay in other people’s houses and look after their animals while they are away. In between sits (thanks to the global pancetta), I’ve been staying with a friend. I have no permanent place of residence. So, treats, if not food, must be small, light, portable, useful, or one use only.

That limits my treats!

Ok, let’s braindump some ideas here:

  • Go to the cinema
  • New clothes
  • OH! Sensory deprivation tank!
  • Books
  • Films
  • Alcohol ;)
  • Something from my Amazon wishlist
  • Do a circus lesson!

Ok, ok, ok. Not so hard after all. I just needed to get the brain turning and now we have some pretty cool things. Let’s work out my plan of treats!

Plan of Treats

5k words — I will buy a book

10k words — I’m going to get a bottle of that delicious Thunder toffee vodka I love. I’ll TRY not to write too drunk, except for scenes where the characters are drunk. It’s a thing.

25k words — Do a circus lesson. I think I’ll be in the circus mood well and true by then.

50k words — When I win NaNoWriMo, I’m going to treat myself with something from my Amazon Wishlist because that’s how I roll.

Finish the book — I’m scoring a sensory deprivation tank experience! I’ve wanted to do that for years. I’m assigning this to finishing the book rather than winning NaNoWriMo because Knot That Hot will defs be more than 50k words.

Treats are ready!
