Quickie: Why Your Uber Eats Deliveries Smell Like Sex

They may smell like piss too

You’re having a nice movie date night with your partner. You order your favorite food, pop open a bottle of wine, and think about the hot sex you’re going to have as soon as the credits roll. Your order arrives, you pay the Uber Eats driver, and get ready to dig in. But you smell something…off. You sniff the bag to figure out if the restaurant screwed up your order and you get a whiff of something familiar.

“Why do I smell sex?” you ask your partner, who shrugs, knowing full well you haven’t even started getting hot and heavy yet.

But what you and your partner don’t know is the real culprit of your olfactory perplexity: your delivery driver.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times: Don’t fuck with the people handling your meals.

At least that’s what a study conducted by Circuit Route Planner suggests. In a survey of over 500 delivery drivers, researchers found that 25 percent of them have had sex in their car while making deliveries. And if they’re not fucking around your food, 10 percent of them may urinate on or around your home before getting the order to you. If you’re lucky, you’ll get the 80 percent of drivers who admit to merely eating part of their customers’ orders — albeit disgusting, much better than the alternatives.

Why do delivery drivers do this? Not surprisingly, it’s because people suck and drivers are disgruntled. The vast majority of survey respondents (73 percent) said they were behaving badly because of the terrible tips they were getting, while 57 percent said they were mad at customers’ dogs barking at them, and 30 percent were pissed off because people were just plain rude. Other consumer offenses include not answering the door when delivery drivers show up, providing a wrong or nonexistent address, using delivery drivers as fodder for social media videos, and accusing them of stealing.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times: Don’t fuck with the people handling your meals. They have a tough job; just be nice. Food for thought if you don’t want your deliveries smelling like piss and sex.
