Prioritise Your Self-Love
It’s so important to prioritise your self-love and value your self-worth.
We’ve officially reached a full year of lockdown, a year of uncertainty, anticipation and overall a lack of hugs. It’s tough to process what this year has or hasn’t been for us all other than knowing we’ve all been through a lot. One thing we should understand is the importance of self-love.
Before we’re able to practice self-love, first we need to understand what it is. In short, it’s an appreciation of yourself.
Finding ways to respect and support your actions by taking care of your well-being and happiness and not settling for less than you deserve.
Self-love is accepting you for everything that you are.
It’s learning to accept your emotions and putting your mental health first.
So with that in mind, don’t make life harder for yourself especially with everything going on. Don’t be so harsh with yourself and definitely don’t make yourself feel bad for missing a workout, eating chocolate or not getting that task completed from your to-do list — it’s okay to have a nothing day.
Start by being kind, patient and gentle to yourself in the same way you would be with someone else that you truly care about. Tell yourself how great you are rather than relying on or waiting for someone else to tell you.
Try creating a self-love mantra for yourself. When you’re feeling down, having a mantra that you say to yourself can help you bounce back. My self-love mantra is ‘Come on Sam, you can do this, you’re great’… find one that works best for you.
Stay true and positive to yourself because you will only ever be as happy and successful as you believe you can be.
Talking positively to yourself will build on your confidence and trust —try becoming your own best friend.
Ways you can practise self-love:
- Listen to yourself: Pay attention to how you talk to yourself and be mindful of what you think, feel and want.
- Focus on you: Take actions based on your needs rather than what you want. Staying on track allows you to focus on yourself.
- Self-Care Routine: Paying more attention to yourself will make you love yourself more. Take care of your well-being through healthy activities such as exercise, decent sleep and hygiene.
- Celebrate you: No matter how big or small, celebrate your wins. Be proud of what you have and can achieve.
As you move through your self-love journey, you’ll come to terms with how great truly are. It’s important to stay patient, your self-love will grow but can take a lifetime to master. Support yourself through the journey to becoming a more self-loving wholesome human.
