Summary

The Apple Vision Pro, Apple's AR/VR headset, is rumored to have expensive prescription inserts, potentially costing an additional 300–600, on top of the device's already high 3,499 price tag.

Abstract

The article discusses the Apple Vision Pro, an innovative AR/VR headset that offers an immersive experience with an 'infinite canvas' for apps and can be controlled via voice, hands, and eye movements. Despite its high price of 3,499, the headset promises multitasking capabilities and compatibility with various apps, including Disney Plus. However, the cost may further increase for users requiring prescription inserts, with rumors suggesting a price range of 300–600 for Zeiss Optical Inserts. The author acknowledges the additional expense as significant but rationalizes it by comparing it to the cost of high-quality glasses and emphasizing the headset's potential for frequent use in both work and entertainment.

Opinions

  • The author views the Apple Vision Pro as a game-changing device with a high initial cost that may be justified by its advanced features and potential uses.
  • There is an expectation that the prescription inserts, while expensive, are a fair price considering the quality and functionality they provide for vision correction within the AR/VR experience.
  • The article suggests that the cost of the Vision Pro and its prescription inserts, though high, is comparable to other high-end Apple products and premium prescription glasses, making it a potentially worthwhile investment for heavy users.
  • Some Twitter users are critical of the high cost of the prescription inserts, viewing it as an unnecessary additional expense to an already premium-priced product.
  • The author encourages readers to follow their posts for ongoing updates and insights into gaming, technology, design, and social media trends, indicating a positive stance on the potential of the Vision Pro within these domains.

Prescription Inserts Are Rumored to Be Fairly Expensive for the Apple Vision Pro

Along with the already high price tag for the Vision Pro, prescription inserts could make it unnecessarily expensive.

So, in a few recent stories, I talked about this super cool thing called Apple Vision Pro, as well as other AR/VR headsets. I’ll drop the links at the end of this post, so make sure to check it out.

But for now, let’s dive into some juicy details about the Vision Pro and the rumored prices for those fancy prescription inserts. Buckle up!

An Overview of the Apple Vision Pro

You may ask what it is. So, here’s the deal with Apple’s Vision Pro. They say it’s an absolute game-changer, giving you this crazy infinite canvas for apps that goes way beyond your regular old screen. And get this, you can control it with your voice, hands, and even your eyes! No clunky controllers are needed, folks.

Unlike those other VR/AR headsets, this bad boy won’t block out the real world. You can still see what’s happening around you while enjoying all these awesome virtual apps and programs. Picture yourself chilling on the couch, watching something, and having a virtual screen that’s even bigger than your actual TV. It’s mind-blowing, seriously.

And here’s the best part — it’s not just for gaming. The Vision Pro is a multitasking beast! You can wear it at work and run all kinds of apps while staying connected to reality.

Even Disney’s bigwig, Bob Iger, showed up on stage to confirm that Disney Plus and other cool apps will be available for this bad boy. They even showed off some crazy experiences, like virtually attending sports matches. How awesome is that?

Now, let’s talk battery life. You can use the Vision Pro all day when it’s plugged in (obviously!) or for up to 2 hours with an external battery that can fit right in your pocket.

It’s got this fancy new chip and runs on an operating system specifically designed for AR/VR. Oh, and if you wear glasses, no worries! You can get these Zeiss Optical Inserts to help with your vision. Pretty cool, right?

What’s with the prescription inserts?

So, WWDC 2023 was all about showing off the latest and greatest stuff from Apple, and the real star of the show was the Apple Vision Pro. People have mixed opinions about it. Some think it’s a technical marvel, while others think the $3,499 price tag is outrageous.

Sure, it’s expensive, but so are other Apple products. A 16-inch MacBook Pro costs more than two-thirds of the price of the Vision Pro, and that’s before you think about any upgrades. When you consider all the possibilities with the headset, I think it’s a good deal.

But there’s more to the story. If you wear prescription lenses, you’ll have to factor in the cost of those. Apple partnered with Zeiss for the lenses, and they attach magnetically to the headset for precise tracking.

We don’t know how much they’ll cost yet or what kind of visual impairments they’ll cover, but a well-known Apple insider named Mark Gurman made an educated guess on Twitter. He thinks the Zeiss prescription lenses could be around $300–600 per pair.

That’s a decent amount of money, especially on top of the already high price. People on Twitter got pretty worked up about it, with one person saying it’s adding insult to injury.

I don’t think it’s too outrageous. Good glasses can easily cost that much, and the Vision Pro is something you’ll be using all the time for work and play.

Final Words

This isn’t just some VR headset that collects dust. It’s designed to be used throughout the day, like a Mac. And in the evenings, you can enjoy immersive content with it too.

If you’re the kind of person who will use it a lot, you might end up wearing it more than your regular glasses. And when you think about that, the price doesn’t seem too bad.
