Practice Dharma.
your life is short, use it wisely… #WednesdayWisdom

- Do you know when you will die? It’s something we don’t like to think about. We think we are invincible, making our plans and believing that our life will go on for as long as we want it to. This is not reality. We can die even tomorrow. We never know which will be our last breath.
- This isn’t morbid or pessimistic talk, it’s facing up to reality, doing exactly what the Buddha wanted us to do and that’s to see things as they really are, to live in truth. This is the way out of suffering.
- We are lazy, we like to do what we enjoy and avoid what we dislike. Dharma practice teaches us to be diligent, to be disciplined and to go against the grain of our likes and dislikes.
- Every one of us has Buddha-nature which means that we have the same opportunity to attain enlightenment as the Buddha himself and his early followers. They were all human beings, the same as us, but they trained themselves without doubting the benefits of following the path and they reaped the rewards.
- We are all limited by our impending death so to do something extremely useful with your time and your life, practice dharma and start now.
“If you practice sincerely then Nibbāna is waiting for you. Don’t just sit there waiting for it to come to you.” - Ajahn Chah
***Nibbana(i) and nirvana(ii) are interchangeable as are dhamma(i) and dharma(ii) — (i) are in the Pali script of Theravada Buddhism as used in Thailand and most of South East Asia whilst (ii) is in the Sanskrit script of Mahayana texts used in Tibetan teachings.
May this teaching lead you to happiness; may it help you grow in truth. May you be freed from the suffering of birth and death.
