Peace and Action on a Snowy Morning

The gentle first snow of the season brings peace, but I must suddenly ride to work when it becomes a heavy snowfall.

Act 1 -Snow in the balcony garden

I stand close to the glass door to my balcony garden, watching the world outside. The sky is gray and bleak, it just started snowing a few moments ago. And sure enough, flakes fell lightly initially but quickly picked up in intensity.

I watch, entranced, as the snowflakes dance and spin in the air. As they grow in size and number, they cover the ground below, transforming my balcony garden into a winter wonderland. The trees and bushes become adorned with white, and the world outside looks quiet and still.

Flowers and even some tomatoes were taken by surprise by this winter bliss…

Act 2 -Peaceful snowy morning

It all smells of peace, so much peace that washes over me as I watch the snow falling. The world outside seems to have slowed down, and I am able to take a step back and appreciate the beauty around me.

I stand and walk over to the edge of the balcony, feeling the cold snowflakes on my face. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, savoring the fresh, crisp air. I sip my warm tea sweetened with honey and some drops of milk. It feels so calm.

For a moment, I am completely at peace, lost in the beauty of the snowfall.

And at that moment, I am grateful for this small balcony garden and the joy it brings me all year round. Spring, summer, fall, winter -and again.

Act 3 -Action under the snow

As the snow continues to fall, I decide to go for a walk. Well, rather, I should hurry up and ride my bike to work... It’s already 8:30 am, and I need to be there by 9:00.

I bundle up in my warmest coat and hat and step out into the winter wonderland. I ride the bike down the gentle slopes, enjoying the silence that snow offers as it dampens the noise of the street. You probably know I have something for riding in the snow…

The snow crunches under my wheels as I make my way down the street. The world around me is eerily quiet as if everyone else has gone into hibernation. I revel in the solitude, feeling as if I have the entire world to myself.

I meet no cars, no motorbikes, nothing. Well, actually, another biker and a truck, both at the roundabout. Very friendly, the truck driver stops despite having priority and lets us go through. The other biker turns to the city center, and I continue riding downhill under the snow, now very dense.

I make my way through the bike lanes covered in snow. On the sides and into the forest, I see some animal tracks crisscrossing the snow. I can’t help but smile and think they are having their own winter adventure.

As I arrive at my office, with lots ahead to do, I feel invigorated and alive. Wet and cold, but better than ever.

Meanwhile, my office’s plants thrive in the warm, dry weather they like:

The snow has brought me a sense of peace and wonder, and I am grateful for the experience. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the white season has in store.
