Bracing for the upcoming winter

In preparation for this next winter, I unearthed my best shots of the cold season. Here is a selection of photos.

From a snowshoe hike around the Lac de Joux region, in Canton de Vaud, Switzerland

The lead photo and the next two were all shot around the region of Lac de Joux, which I also showed you in summer here:

Hike above Leysin, Canton de Vaud too

The sea of clouds in the back is covering a lake (of liquid water, of course) called Lac Leman (Lake Geneva in English). All the basin where the lake sits today was a huge glacier some thousands of years ago. That is, a single picture is referring us to all 3 main states of water!

That very same place, I just featured it last week in my latest autumn hike. Still without snow, but it’s probably snowing right now!

Stuck in snow during a snowshoe hike close to Diablerets. Yep, in Canton de Vaud too

Yes, I got stuck in the snow while trying to cross a stream of melted water. Fortunately, I didn’t set a foot in the water!

Ice-land

Here hiking in the Jökulsárlón glacier (with guides):

And here I am inside an ice cave of that glacier:

Surprisingly, this glacier discharges its molten waters into a lagoon and then into the sea. Here you see the glacier in the back and the small lake through which the icebergs sail towards the sea:

And here’s an iceberg stranded on the coast of the sea. Look at that color!

I hope you’ve enjoyed these pics; and that if you live in latitudes that are about to enter the winter, they will help you brace for the shock!
