Passive Income at 16-Years-Old
Picture this just for a second:
You are sat on the beach chilling. You have your laptop on your lap and you are working on your blog.
You look at the sales statistics for your course and it is at six figures. You have been doing this consistently for a few years now and you are a millionaire! You have a large email list of fans to boot and they are all hungry for your next product.
Sounds like a scam, right?
Well, sadly people have been using this dream of ‘six-figure blogging’ or ‘financial freedom’ and ‘get rich quick schemes’ to scam unsuspecting people.
Because we’re are all cooped up at home, we are all spending a lot more time on the internet. And as such, marketers and companies have had to adapt their sales plans.
Sadly, for all the legitimate people out there, there are others out there trying to scam you out of your hard-earned money.
As of recently, you may have seen adverts promoting a ‘$997 dropshipping course’ or a plan to get rich by making a few ‘Facebook ads’. They promise results within weeks and they use screenshots to try and prove this.
Well, as much as I hate to tell you this, these schemes do not work.
They are based solely on making quick money using a dodgy sales tactic that may work today but completely fail tomorrow.
That’s not what building a real business is about. Building a real, sustainable business takes time and a lot of work.
But, I am not saying it is impossible. Earning six figures a month, being financially free and living the life you want are all possible. But, you need to put the work in.
And this is where my story comes in…
I am a 16-year old currently in my last year of school, based in the UK. I do photography as a hobby and I am looking to build a large website based around that.
I want to build up some passive income around my blog and some other sources so that I become financially free and not dependant on a 9–to-5 job.
This story covers my plan for making passive income with my blog and how I see it going within the next few years.
I also want to say that I have already started making some passive income, primarily through Medium, and I have an article linked below detailing how much I earned in my first-month blogging:
Now you’ve read that, let’s get into my passive income plan for 2021 and beyond:
Passive Income Source 1: Photoaspire (My Photography Blog)
Firstly, let’s talk about my newly-released blog, Photoaspire.com. Feel free to check it out if you wish and if you are new to photography, sign up for my FREE 7-Day Photography Bootcamp.
On this website, I write articles based on photography. I teach people about both the theoretical and practical sides of photography.
Most recently, I have written some articles around what photography gear to buy, how to become inspired with your photography, what to focus on as a newbie and soon I will write an article explaining some of the basic terms that you will need to be aware of in the photography world.
In order to monetise this, I will use a few income streams:
- Ad revenue (Google Adsense for now, Mediavine once I reach 50,000 sessions/month)
- Affiliate Marketing via blog posts
- A sales funnel to sell an expensive affiliate product
- Sponsored Posts
- Photography Courses (in the long term. This is where most six-figure bloggers get their money and build their reputation)
In terms of how much I will be making with this income source, I predict that I will reach this amount by these months:
- May 2021: £50/month
- August 2021: £300/month
- November 2021: £1,000/month
- March 2022: £3,000/month
I definitely think this is doable and I am very excited to work towards these goals.
If you want to keep track of how I do overtime and follow me on my journey, feel free to give me a follow on this Medium page and visit my website regularly to see the latest income report.
So, just to clarify, this will be my main source of income. I will spend the most time and money working on my photography blog because this is the source of income that will last me for years to come and it is this website that will enable me to build up my brand and reputation around my photography.
Next up, we have Medium…
Passive Income Source 2: Medium Writing
This is another key source of income I want to work on building up.
I have been writing on this platform since December last year and I have already earned a little cash through this program.
I have earned $30 in my first month of writing (£20 roughly) and this is very motivating for me.
It gives me the proof and belief that it is possible to make money online and that it is not just pie in the sky.
I will use this platform as an opportunity to write about other niches other than photography. After all, it would make no sense for me to write about finance on a site where my audience wants to learn about photography.
Writing During a Pandemic: My First 7 Days on Medium
What an amazing journey it has been!
medium.com
Some of the topics I will write about include photography, creativity, tech companies, startups, productivity, personal finance and my journey to financial freedom.
I predict that I will reach these financial milestones with writing on the Medium Partner Program:
- May 2021: $100/month (£76/month estimate)
- August 2021: $200/month (£163/month estimate)
- November 2021: $500/month (£322/month estimate)
- March 2021: $750/month (£578/month estimate)
On the whole, this will be one of my main sources of income and it has proven to be very helpful to me in terms of building up a following and a regular audience that will read my content.
The next source of income will take a little longer to start up and I will only start it once I earn a decent amount from the first 2 sources of income…
Income Source 3: Photography Youtube Channel
The third and final main source of income is through a photography youtube channel.
The reason I intend to do this is so I can provide my audience with practical, hands-on videos showing them how they can improve their images step-by-step.
Photography channels also do decently well on Youtube and, because of the nature of the products being promoted, CPM rates are high, too.
I will use this channel to provide tutorials, reviews and to network with other photographers on youtube and build up a network.
In terms of predicted income, I reckon I can earn these amounts through Google Adsense. Bear in mind I have said the number of months, not the actual month. This is because I do not have a concrete plan at the moment of when I will start up a channel:
- Month 3: £50/month
- Month 6: £300/month
- Month 9: £500/month
- Month 12: £1,000/month
Will I reach these goals? I don’t know. I will have to wait and find out.
And before I end this post, I am going to quickly list some other quick ideas I have considered that I can use to generate some passive income:
- Personal Blog
- Personal Finance Youtube Channel
- Photography Merch
- White Labelling Photography Gear
Let me know what you think of my ideas.
And finally, thank you…
I know this post was rather long but I thank you for taking the time to read this post. I really appreciate it :)
