New to Photography? Here are 3 Types of Photography you Should Master
If you’re a newbie photographer and you’ve only recently started taking snaps of things, you may feel overwhelmed by the different types of photography that are out there.
From portrait photography to product photography to even old-school film photography, there is an exciting array of photography categories you can dive into.
But which ones should I master and play around with first? Which one is the most profitable and could any of these types of photography kickstart your side-hustle or even career?
Read on to find out!
Portrait Photography
Portrait photography is one of the most popular types of photography out there and I highly doubt that it will be going away anytime soon.
This is an amazing type of photography to master and I highly suggest you give it a try.
You will pick up key skills in co-ordinating photoshoots, which will help you to develop better communication and management skills.
These skills will be particularly handy should you wish to earn an income from doing portrait photography for others.
You will also have a better understanding of what angles to shoot from and how different types of lighting affect how your photos look.
Your photo editing skills will also be improved if you decide to edit your portrait shots.
It is simple to get started with and you will be able to take amazing portrait photos in no time.
It is also relatively cheap to get started with, too. For many of you, you can just get started with your phone.
For those of you who wish to buy a DSLR, the Nikon D3500 is a great choice and the kit lens included is great for getting started with.
If you have a spare £70, you can also pick up a 50mm lens, too.
These can work wonders, especially if you are into that amazing bokeh background look.
Product Photography
Product photography will always be in demand. There will always be companies that need their latest products being shown off in the most positive light.
And what better way to do this than with a well-shot product photograph.
This type of photography will teach you about colour theory and it will help you to develop an eye for what type of colours go well together in product photoshoots.
You will also develop an understanding of how light works and how you can use it to your advantage to create amazing pictures.
You may also be able to turn this into a viable income as a side-hustle or even as a full-time career.
If you develop enough of a reputation for good product photography in your local area, you may be able to nicely fill in a gap for a demand.
This means that local businesses will see you as the go-to for professional-looking shots of their items.
A kit lens or a 50mm lens paired with a basic DSLR camera body will be more than enough for you to get started.
You can then unleash your creative side by deciding on the props and backgrounds yourself.
Low-Light/Night Photography
Last but not least, I suggest you give this a try!
I’m not going to lie, it can be a little more difficult to get started with this type of photography compared to the other types I have mentioned here.
But if you can master it, it can be so rewarding.
Having the ability to shoot high-quality photos at night is an amazing skill to possess and it will certainly stand you in good stead, particularly if you are looking to make money with your photography.
By learning the skills to shoot night photography, you will learn how to create photos without noise or grain in them.
In order to do this, you may need to use the manual mode on your camera. This will also boost your photography skills.
Many businesses may also be looking for a night photographer and if you are the only one in your area who can do a really good job, you could be set up to earn an excellent income.
