Summary

The protagonist's mother and her boyfriend Carl are invited to join an ongoing adventure, with the protagonist considering whether to ask for an Egg McMuffin as part of the preparations.

Abstract

In the latest chapter of a "Choose Your Own Adventure" story, the protagonist's mother unexpectedly decides to participate in the adventure alongside her new boyfriend, Carl. The protagonist reminisces about the mother's previous boyfriend, Juan, who was unpleasant in various ways. Despite some reservations, the protagonist agrees to include them and contemplates asking for a favor involving a McDonald's breakfast. The narrative offers interactive options for readers to influence the story's progression, including whether to request the Egg McMuffin or have Carl dress in a Ronald McDonald costume, or to simply prepare for their arrival.

Opinions

  • The protagonist seems to have a strained relationship with their mother's choice of partners, as evidenced by the unflattering description of Juan.
  • There is a humorous tone in the protagonist's internal dialogue, particularly when thinking about their mother's eccentricities and the awkward conversations they have.
  • The protagonist's mother is portrayed as quirky and overly candid, especially about her personal life, much to the protagonist's discomfort.
  • The story invites reader participation, suggesting a playful and interactive dynamic between the narrative and its audience.

“I’m going to come along, okay, honey? And Carl, too. He adorrrres adventure!” shouts your mom into the phone. You can just imagine her belly ring and liver-level tattoo of John Lennon hanging out between layers of neon yoga gear.

“Okay, okay, mom. Bring Carl along. I hope he’s more sociable than Juan!” You picture your mom’s last boyfriend, Juan. He had breath that smelled like a toilet bowl filled with maggot juice, ear hair longer than his shoulders, and an obsession with picking scabs — even ones on other people.

“Oh, honey, I know you didn’t like him much…”

“That’s an understatement.” I cut her off, hoping to avoid what I know she will say next. I am already wincing so much my belly feels like I’ve done four hundred crunches.

“He was an odd duck. But he was so good to my lady parts!” And she said it. Again. She hears you gag. “You okay, honey? Coming down with a cold or something? I just harvested some of my organic Echinacea. I’ll bring you some.”

“I’m fine, mom. Just don’t forget the Ronald McDonald costume.” As you say this you consider asking her to buy the Egg McMuffin along the way. It might save you some time. Although she is morally opposed to McDonald’s she may do you a favor, seeing as it is a part of the whole mystery adventure.

Options:

👉Ask your mom to buy the Egg McMuffin along the way.

👉Ask her to get Carl to dress up in the Ronald McDonald costume.

👉Say goodbye and get things ready as you wait for them to arrive.
