Now Is the Time to Ditch Your Old Routine
Accept a new way of living as we shift into a new paradigm

We’re outgrowing our old proverbial shoes. We need to get a new pair or go barefoot.
With the recent effects of Covid-19, most of us are in isolation at home. Some systems are collapsing. We’re compelled to live and breathe one moment at a time. We’re called to trust in the unknown.
On the outset, it feels devastating and uncomfortable. A lot of you are afraid you won’t survive on a few different levels. Yes, it can be stressful to not know what’s next. Will you have everything you need to provide for yourself and your families? Will I find support if I can’t? You may have doubts and uncertainty about your future.
But hope and light surround you, although you might not see it. A disease threat pushed us into action. We’ve had unprecedented positive change from this threat forcing us to do things differently.
We’ve retreated, and nature has responded favorably. Message received. I wonder what we’ll do when the Coronavirus threat subsides. I envision new habits forming. I see us reconnecting with our communities. I see a new earth.
We’re finding a new approach to living and working in the world. We need to shift our mind, body, and spirit to another plane of existence.
Most of the old routines won’t work anymore. Our old shoes no longer fit. If we don’t accept our current circumstances, we’ll needlessly suffer.
Let’s not push for normalcy.
There’s no more normal. It’s time to shift gears. We’re on the road of discovery. Our time alone will help us find the answers we’ve been seeking. Slowing down and consciously being present will help us access otherwise hidden resources.
Our routines have changed without much notice. It’s initially shocking. We find security in the known and expected. We crave daily rituals to feel safe and comfortable.
Daily comforts soothe us. Things like morning tea or eating your favorite breakfast of scrambled eggs could change anytime. Humans are creatures of habit. I’m attached to my typical meals and activities. But some things have changed. Eventually, everything will change.
I’ve come to realize we’re being pushed out of our comfy nests. It isn’t always as easy as changing our menu. Some of you have lost your jobs, others are getting evicted, and landlords owe the bank.
As scary as it may feel, we’re overdue for everything to get tossed around.
I never wish hardship on anyone, but sometimes we have to face difficult challenges to grow. Knowing there are many facing challenges, it’s an excellent time for those of us able to give to be of service to those in need.
Everything is ephemeral. If you think of anything as permanent, it’ll be harder to adjust. Nothing in life is guaranteed. All we have is Now.
We rely on predictability.
We expect to find everything we want and need. We think we need it to survive. We’ve used it as a tool for goods and services. We think money will buy happiness.
We need to explore how it’s working for us. Are we slaves to money? I believe so. We’ve made agreements about money exchange. We can choose to break these agreements. We can return to the trade economy anytime.
We’re experiencing a paradigm shift. We have to reevaluate our current systems in place, large and small. As individuals, we might need to mix it up and try new things. As a collective global society, we’ve ignored the need for change.
Here’s how we’re experiencing profound changes in our bodies, minds, and spirits:
Body
Our physical bodies are adapting to current limits to our movement and the outside environment. They’re hopefully getting more rest. We are cooking more meals at home. We’re finding ways to exercise that may differ from our usual routine.
I take my girls on a daily hike now. They used to complain. They look forward to it now. We’re away from people, but close to nature. Today, we whistled at a bird, and they chirped back.
We get more than physical exercise from these adventures. They learn from their environment with a simple walk in the foothills. We never had time or energy for that when they were in school. My next essay will discuss the beautiful byproduct school closure has on our kids.
Mind
Our minds like to complicate things. Some of us are trapped in fear and judgment. When we live in fear, we act out with unreasonable demands or become paralyzed.
Others are taking practical actions for disease prevention and hoping for the best. Then there are those of us who see the bigger picture. We know this is an opportunity for growth. We recognize thinking patterns and behaviors we want to change or eliminate.
We’ve been focusing on the problem for far too long. Now we need to get creative. Innovation, flexibility, and an open mind will bring welcome solutions to our new situation.
If we try to apply our old ways of thinking to our current issues, we won’t find what we’re looking for. Old thinking gets us nowhere. Let’s move forward by embracing a new perspective.
Spirit
You may feel your spirits have been crushed. Know that we’ve had a necessary adjustment. Let’s be gentle with ourselves. Spirit carries different meaning for each of you.
Spirit may feel like an outside source, some call it God. Spirit can be our light frequency or energetic being inside of us. We’re rising up to meet our spirits. We can choose to accept the current message as a gift. We have an opportunity to shift into a lighter realm of consciousness.
It’s possible, even in the midst of fear and panic. Raising our vibration simply means you focus on what feels right inside.
When we do this, our fear subsides. We can bring our talents and skills to offer new services and generate income. It might mean you agree to think outside the box that no longer fits you.
I’m talking about redirecting your focus on work, your parenting, health, and relationships. It’s time to step up to the next level. It can work for everyone, even when you have no current projected income or have health issues.
If you hit a roadblock, ask for help or sit quietly for answers to come. You’ll find a solution. Use your skills and innate talents to build a new business.
Here’s an example. I have a friend who practices acupuncture and naturopathic medicine. She’s taken her skills and shared them online. She’s offering services in a brand new way, and won’t have to invest much. She’s followed her intuition. She’s stepped fully into her role as healer and helps many people navigate our current situation.
Final thoughts
Our old ideas won’t work anymore. We’ve been given a chance to try something new. I’ve mentioned shoes at the beginning of this story.
It takes time to adjust to new shoes. When we’ve worn them for a short time, our feet ideally mold to them and they’re more comfortable.
Think of our process as wearing in a new pair of shoes. Give it some time, and your new life will feel comfy and manageable.
Some shoes take longer to adjust to your feet. But take a look at the old, worn-out pair. The strap broke, and the heel is nearly bare. They no longer protect your feet. They’re not useful to you anymore.
Isn’t it time you take them off? Try the new pair on and take a walk. Better yet, sink your bare toes into the sand or fresh grass. Welcome to your new world.
