Not Just Another Manic Monday
Allow a new mindset to set the tone-Monday motivation can build momentum for a fantastic week of slaying goals

My Love of Mondays
I have always loved Monday’s. I fully realize I meet most people with resistance but please allow me to explain why I feel so passionately about my love of Monday.
First, I love what I do and when you love what you do it is easy to hop out of bed and get excited to get back to work. Second, I do not follow a traditional schedule. As a writer and coach, I typically work at least a couple hours seven days a week. Having said that, allow me to reiterate that I love what I do so it doesn’t feel like work to me. I have never considered myself a workaholic and I am very grateful for the flexibility my schedule allows.
I decided many years ago that Monday was my favorite day of the week because to me it symbolizes a fresh start, a clean slate.
“Your Monday morning thoughts set the tone for your whole week. See yourself getting stronger, and living a fulfilling, happier and healthier life.” ~ Germany Kent
I post an inspirational quote each morning on Facebook and on Mondays I try to make it extra motivational. I encourage my friends and clients to set an intention for the new week, set goals, and then allow that momentum of good energy to carry them through the week. I deeply believe how I set the tone on Monday determines much of my outcome for the entire week.
I like to set daily as well as weekly goals. With those goals I like to give myself rewards that match the size of the goal. For example, when I achieve my whole list of daily goals my reward might be a special chocolate bar, an Epson salt bath, or a special dinner. If I achieve all of my goals each day for the entire week, I may treat myself to a special dinner out (I do not usually achieve all of my goals if I am honest, but I try). For my weekly reward I might treat myself to a nice bottle of wine. I encourage my clients to follow this same process with appropriate rewards that suite them to help motivate them to achieve their goals.
Appreciating Monday is all about mindset.
I like to think of Monday as the start of slowly building momentum to a great week and then when the weekend arrives, I can celebrate accomplishing all my goals and tasks, rest, and then prepare for my next great week. There are a few mindset hacks that will help.
Mindset Hacks to Help Appreciate Monday Momentum
1. Rest on Friday because I have worked hard all week.
2. Workout on Saturday and party or go out and enjoy myself Saturday night, cut loose and enjoy myself.
3. Rest and reset on Sunday. This is the perfect day to meal prep, do laundry, and then practice self-care. I like to enjoy brunch, read, watch movies, and even take a nap.
“A Sunday well spent brings a week of content” ~author unknown
Spending Sunday in a relaxing way prepares me both mentally and physically for my Monday morning momentum into the brand new week. I then keep my Monday schedule rather light. I get up, have a cup of coffee, read a few Medium articles, meditate, and then get started with my day.
I like to write down a few things I am grateful for in a notebook. This puts me in a positive mindset. I have already set my intention and posted my Facebook Monday Motivation quote, so I am set there. I like to have a post work plan as well. I typically plan my meals for the week on Sunday, so I know what I am going to make for dinner, and I keep Monday fairly simple, but something I look forward to.
One reason so many people dread Monday and live for the weekend is that it means they have to adhere to a schedule, and often it is one they do not enjoy. There may not be very much you can do about that. Although, I would encourage you to consider a new job or career if you are not happy with what you are currently doing. It is never too late to follow your passion and pursue your dreams. Approximately 30% of our life is spent working so we really should enjoy what we do.
How are you feeling?
Allow yourself to reflect on these questions:
Is your energy high or low?
What can you do to eliminate what is draining your energy?
How can you gain more energy?
For me, eating well and working out fuels my momentum and energizes me. Letting go of negative thoughts and practicing forgiveness as well as practicing gratitude helps me to feel lighter and more energized. I find when I do not know what is holding me down, I journal and read self-help books, take hikes in the woods, and meditate, and that helps me tremendously to build positive inertia. Just one positive change at the beginning of the week can lead to great outcomes. Allow Monday motivation to bring momentum into your week rather than to dread Monday and spend the whole week looking forward to Friday. Live each day to the fullest, slay your goals. You are worthy of achieving all that you desire.
