I wonder how many people have enough time in their days to practice semen retention.

Now more than ever, time is of the essence.

Pick and choose from the following practices to suit your time constraints.

I grouped practices according to these categories:

  • Breathe
  • Esoteric
  • Sexual intercourse
  • Solo practices
  • Other
  • Shared Partner Practice
  • Advanced

Breathing

Working with the breath is an essential component of your semen retention practice.

You can breathe without having to think about it. But you can put the effort forward to change your breath.

Name of Practices — Belly Breathing and Century Breath

Time length — 5 to 10 minutes

Benefit — Circulates the sexual energy so there is not a build that would cause frustration.

Theory — You can change your rate of breathing and depth. Slow your breath down as you come close to the Point of No Return.

When you are aroused your breath can become shallower. You can direct your breath to the longer part of your lungs, to deepen the breath.

Practice — First, practice these on your own before using them during sex.

Belly breathing

1. Sit in a chair with your back straight and feet flat on the floor.

2. Place a hand on your navel.

3. Inhale through your nose and direct the breath below the navel. You will feel your hand move forward as your abdomen expands.

4. Exhale through your nose. As the abdomen contracts, your hand moves towards your spine.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 ten to twenty times.

Century Count

Count your breaths from 1 to 100. This is to be used in conjunction with belly breathing.

1. Slowly inhale, directing the breath to your lower abdomen then exhale.

2. Start the count on the exhalation. For example, breathe in and exhale, mentally say to your 1. Inhale and exhale and say 2, and so on.

3. If you lose count, go back to the number 1.

Effectiveness scale — High

Esoteric Practices

These practices are from the Yogis of India and the Taoists of China.

Name of Practice — Pranayama

Time length — 5 mins to 1 hour

Benefit — Circulars the sexual energy to prevent sexual frustration

Theory — Pranayama is the regulation of energy in the body with your lungs and breathing.

In Vedic philosophy, energy in the body is called prana. The prana moves through nadis. Nadis are circular type tubes that are interconnected throughout your body.

Practice — Two pranayamas of note are nadi sodhana and bhastrika. Refer to Light on Pranayam by B. K. S. Iyengar.

Effectiveness scale — Medium

Name of Practice — Yoga postures

Time length — 5 mins to 1 hour

Benefit — Moves the sexual energy from around the groin.

Theory –When your body is upside down, this encourages the prana to move from the lower body to the upper body. Thus moving the sexual energy away from the pelvic region.

Practice — These include a headstand and shoulder stand.

These types of asanas should only be practiced if you already have a strong yoga practice.

Effectiveness scale — Low

Name of Practice — Uddiyana Bandha

Time length — 5 to 20 minutes

Benefit — Draws the energy up from the pelvis.

Theory — Bandha is a Sanskrit, which translates to seal. The bandha creates a seal that allows the prana to move. Thus stopping a build-up of energy.

Practice –

  1. Stand with the feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Bend forward and hands on the bottom of your thighs, immediately above your knees. You are hunched over.
  3. Expel all the air in your lungs.
  4. Draw the navel to the spine.
  5. Hold your breath.
  6. To release, release the navel grip and slowly inhale.
  7. Repeat steps 3 to 6.

For extra support allow your tongue to touch the top of the palate directly behind your teeth

Effectiveness scale — Very high.

Name of Practice — Brahmacharya

Time length — dependent upon practitioners choice

Benefit — Decreases the chance of sexual arousal.

Sexual energy is diverted to be used for contemplation and spiritual pursuits. An adept is called an Oordhvareta Yogi. Their seminal energy has gone up into the brain.

Theory — The strict interpretation is abstinence from sex. In practice, for the average person, this means moderate sexual contact with your partner.

Through regulated and conscious contact with a sexual mate, you can effectively manage your sexual activity. Thus avoiding indiscriminate contact that will disperse your sexual energy.

The focus is on the elimination of lust but not the suppression of sexual energy. Suppression leads to a build-up of frustration on an unconscious level. That will in turn come out in unhealthy behaviors.

Practice — No sexual contact. Including physical and mental.

Effectiveness scale — Very high.

Name of Practice — Micro orbit

Time length — 1 round takes 15 seconds

Benefit — By circulating the sexual energy, it moves it from the pelvis.

Theory — This is an effective technique taken from the Taoists.

Practice — When you breathe in, imagine the sexual energy that is located at the testicles running up your spine and to the top of your head. When you exhale, imagine the sexual energy coming down the body’s front line to your navel. Ensure the tip of the tongue is touching the top of the palate behind the teeth. Continue to cycle in this manner.

Effectiveness scale — Very high

Sexual Intercourse

Talk to your partner about these various practices before doing them during lovemaking. Busting out your newfound semen retention practices may be off-putting if she isn’t aware of them.

Name of Practice — Withdrawal

Time length — A few seconds

Benefit — Decreases sexual energy rising to prolong lovemaking.

Theory — The friction created during sex on your penis brings on sexual arousal. Leading to ejaculation. When you stop the movement of penetration, your sexual energy drops.

Practice — Withdraw your penis from inside your partner during sex

Effectiveness scale — Very high

Name of Practice — Stop / Pause / Stop-start technique

Time length — a few seconds

Benefit — Stops sexual arousal from building up.

Theory — Stops the sexual arousal that is created during sexual intercourse. Recommended when your sexual energy level has dropped.

Practice — When your sexual arousal level has got too high, immediately stop having sex. Your penis remains inside her.

Effectiveness scale — High/Intermediate

Solo

Semen retention practices that are done by yourself.

Name of Practice — Kegel Exercises

Time length — 5 seconds.

Benefit — When you contract these muscles before getting to the point of no return, this can inhibit the flow of semen.

Theory — The pubococcygeus (PC) muscles are located around your perineum, just behind the testicles, and in from of the anus. You can feel these muscles when you stop urinating.

Practice -

1. Inhale and be aware of the muscles around your prostate, perineum, and anus.

2. As you exhale, contract your PC muscles and, at the same time, squeeze your muscles around your eyes and mouth.

3. Inhale and relax. Release your PC muscles and the muscles around the eyes and mouth.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3. Start with ten a day, and each week increase by five repetitions.

Effectiveness scale — Low/intermediate

Name of Practice — Squeezing the penis

Time length — 3 seconds

Benefit & Theory — Stops ejaculation from exiting the body.

Practice — The technique involves placing pressure on the underside of the penis when you are about to ejaculate to stop the semen.

The areas that are recommended are:

  • Placing your thumb over the eye of the penis.
  • Squeezing the head of the penis.
  • Placing pressure on the underside of the penis either immediately below the head of the penis, slightly above the scrotum, or at the midpoint along the shaft.

Effectiveness scale — High

Name of Practice — Scrotal tugging

Time length — 5 seconds

Benefit–Draws sexual energy out of the penis.

Theory–A decrease in sexual energy mitigates ejaculation.

Practice–With one hand, hold the top of your erect penis. On the other hand, use the index finger and thumb to clasp around the scrotum immediately above your testicles.

Holding the penis straight, pull down firmly on the scrotum.

Effectiveness scale — Intermediate

Name of Practice–Million-dollar Point

Time length–5 seconds or more

Benefit–Prevents ejaculation.

Theory– A Taoist practice. The million-dollar point is the point immediately in front of the anus. Physically pressing this point stops semen from exiting the penis.

On a subtle level, it stops the flow of chi (a Chinese word meaning vital energy.) going to the penis.

Practice– Press on this point with one or two fingertips. Pushing this spot inhibits the ejaculation reflex. The penis needs to be fully erect for the most effective results.

Effectiveness scale–High

Name of Practice — Cool Draw / Testicle Breathing

Time length 5–10 minutes

Benefit — Circulating the sexual energy away from your groin can assist with premature ejaculation. Premature ejaculation is taking place due to a quick build of sexual energy around the groin.

This technique promotes whole-body organisms.

Theory — Draw the sexual energy up out of your testicles and circulated through your body before you get aroused.

Practice –

1. Rub and cup your testicles.

2. Breathing in, pulls up on the scrotum. Contract the anus muscles and perineum. Think of the sexual energy moving from this area to your tailbone.

3. Breathe out and relax the contracted muscles. But keep the attention on the sexual now that is around the base of the spine.

4. Inhale and contract the same muscles again, repeat moving the sexual energy from the testicles to the base of the spine.

5. On the next inhalation draw the sexual energy up from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.

6. Take the tip of the touch to touch the palette immediately above the teeth and imagine the sexual energy coming down the front of the body to rest at the belly.

Effectiveness scale — High

Name of Practice — Big Draw

Time length — 2 minutes or more.

Benefit — Stops ejaculation.

Theory — The big draw stops the ejaculatory spasm. You squeeze the PC muscles, especially around the sperm ducts, and ‘pump’ (ie: a continuous squeeze and contracting) the large buttocks muscles. The process of engaging these larger muscles in this area draws the blood away from your groin.

Practice –

1. In a standing position, pleasure yourself (masturbate) until you have a full erection.

2. Stop for a moment and rest to ensure you have full control over your sexual energy. Contract your PC muscles firmly around your prostrate and grip your toes on the floor.

3. Take a breath in and draw your sexual energy from the perineum towards the anus and spine by squeezing the buttock muscles.

4. In a pumping action engage in this process. With each pumping, motion take a short inhalation. Rock your spine back and forth as if you were riding a horse.

5. Like you learned in the Cool Draw move the energy from the tailbone up the spine.

6. When the energy reaches the top of the skull, tuck your chin into the throat.

7. Look up, as if looking at the top of your head.

8. When you have pumped the sexual energy up to the head. You have done the Big Draw. Success is measured by your arousal level lowering and less tension in your erection.

9. Repeat steps 3 through 7 ten more times.

10. With the energy now in your head, visualize the sexual energy spiraling around in your head. One way then reverse the direction.

11. Rest, then draw the energy down to your belly. Remember to touch the tongue to the top of the pallet immediately behind the teeth.

Effectiveness scale — High

Name of Practice — Finger lock

Time length — 5 seconds

Benefit — Prevents ejaculation.

Theory — Used when you have crossed the point of no return (PNR). The PNR is when your sexual arousal level has gone past the point when you are no longer able to stop yourself from ejaculating.

When you have passed the PNR, you can apply the finger lock to the Million-Dollar Point.

The Finger Lock will stop the semen from coming out of your penis, you will also lose your erection. However, with this technique, it will not take long for another erection to ignite.

Practice — When the sensation arises that you are about to ejaculate, press the 3 middle fingers (middle, ring, and index fingers) of your dominant hand on the Million-Dollar Point. The pressure must be hard enough to stop the flow of semen.

For ease of access to that area, curve the fingers and the middle finger pushed directly against the urethral tube. The tube is expanded when you are about to ejaculate, so will be easy to feel its location. The other 2 fingers will sit on either side of this tube.

You can also contract your PC muscles (the groups of muscles that sit around the prostrate) and pull up your perineum.

When the pumping sensation of the ejaculation phase has completely stopped, then you can remove your fingers.

Effectiveness scale — High

Other

These are general body-based exercises.

Name of Practice — Physical exercises.

Time length — 5 to 20 minutes.

Benefit — Prevents a build of sexual energy.

Theory — Sexual energy is exhausted through physical exercise.

Practice — Running, push-ups, cold shower, 30 push-ups

Effectiveness scale — Intermediate

Shared Partner Practice

Practices that are done with your partner.

Name of Practice — Looping breath.

Time length — 5 to 10 minutes.

Benefit — Circulates sexual energy to prevent a build. Also:

  • More frequent sex.
  • Longer periods of having sex.
  • Multiply organisms

Theory — Using the support of a partner to circulate sexual energy.

Practice –

1. Sit with your legs crossed, your partner sits on your lap and wraps her legs around you.

2. You inhale and imagine your sexual energy rising from your groin up your spine. On the exhalation image, your sexual energy goes down the front of the body.

3. On the next inhalation, shift your focus onto your partner. Imagine the sexual energy rising from her pelvis, up her spine to the head. Then on your exhalation, imagine her sexual energy coming down to her stomach.

Your partner is to do this same exercise. Keep a soft gaze into each other’s eyes.

Practice — Running, push-ups, cold shower, 30 push-ups

Effectiveness scale — Intermediate

Other

Food is a not often-spoken-about the influence on your practice.

Name of Practice — Food

Time length — Meal time.

Benefit — Assist in steadying your mind.

Theory — Foods that can support a healthy practice are organic plant-based consumables.

Spices, onions, garlic, alcohol, and salt are to be avoided.

Practice — Consume organic plant-based food.

Effectiveness scale — Medium.

Advanced Practices

These practices can be used when starting your practices, but being more subtle can be difficult to apply.

Name of Practice — Change Thoughts

Time length — A couple of seconds.

Benefit — Cuts off the sexual energy starting to build.

Theory — This technique starts with the intention I will think about something different from sexualized thoughts. When a sexualized thought comes up, acknowledge it and then immediately think of something other than sex.

By allowing the mind to experience one sexual thought after another that generates sexual energy. Your sexual energy will immediately drop when you interrupt the thought flow.

Practice — At any time.

Effectiveness scale — High.

Name of Practice — Directed Relaxation

Time length — A few seconds.

Benefit — Releases built-up sexual energy.

Theory — Beware of the sexual energy around the groin, especially between your legs. Holding your focus on this area, tell yourself to relax. Relax your anus and perineum. Immediately, you will feel your sexual energy release from this area.

Effectiveness scale — Very high.
