In my past stories, I’ve chatted about all sorts of Netflix stuff, and you can find those linked later. But today, I gotta spill about the latest from Netflix: they’ve dropped a teaser for Terminator: The Anime Series and it’s hitting screens real soon!

Netflix is totally vibing with animation these days. But guess what? The Terminator’s getting its own animated series, which is landing on Netflix! Yep, you heard it right, folks. Netflix spilled the beans during their Geeked Week — Terminator: The Anime Series is hitting the platform before you know it.

It’s been a bit since we got wind of Netflix teaming up with Production I.G. for a Terminator anime, but guess what? We’ve finally snagged some juicy deets about the show. The first peek at this anime dropped during Netflix’s Geeked Week, and honestly, it’s more like a tease — it’s just the title, nothing more, nothing less.

For those not clued in, Production I.G is the powerhouse behind some seriously iconic anime. They’ve slayed it with classics like the OG Ghost in the Shell flick and more recent hits like the Star Wars Visions anthology.

And now, for Terminator — still no official name, can you believe it? — this animated gig is their first crack at the franchise.

They’ve got an eight-episode series lined up, with Masashi Kudo, the big deal from Bleach, directing. And hey, the wordsmith Mattson Tomlin (you might’ve caught his work in Project Power and Mother/Android) is steering the writing ship as the showrunner.

But wait, where does this all fit in the Terminator universe? Here’s the scoop:

It’s 2022, and there’s been this epic war going on for ages. It’s a bloodbath between the last humans standing and an endless swarm of machines. Then rewind to 1997, when the AI Skynet wakes up and decides it’s open season on humanity. Caught smack dab in the middle of this chaos is a soldier sent back in time to turn the tables on humanity’s fate.

Now, this soldier lands in ’97 on a mission to protect this brainy dude named Malcolm Lee. Malcolm’s on a quest to launch a spanking new AI system that will give Skynet a run for its money. But while Malcolm’s wrestling with the moral dilemmas of his creation, guess what? He’s got a Terminator hot on his trail from the future, and that whole chase messes up his three kiddos' destiny forever.

Final Words

When’s this Terminator anime dropping, you ask? Well, they’re keeping that under wraps for now.

But Netflix is really doubling down on animated adaptations — alongside this Terminator hype, there’s Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Skull Island, and even a Tomb Raider series in the works.

They’re going all out, and I’m here for it!
