My Travel Resolutions For 2022
Here’s to more sustainable journeys, exploring new places and making new friends along the way.
One of the best ways to keep our hearts full, minds busy and perspectives open is to travel — however, thanks to the pandemic, it’s clear we’ll all be travelling cautiously for a while longer, but…
I still intend to travel throughout 2022.
I’m ready to prioritise that sense of adventure throughout this new year, holding a new sense of optimism on what's yet to come.
Here is a list of travel resolutions I intend to stick to in 2022 and tips on how you can too…
Travel Slow
Slow travel allows me to take the time to wander through cobbled streets, finding hidden gems and cute coffee shops. I can live like a local and entirely emerge rather than playing tourist. You not only learn about the culture of a new country but also learn more about yourself and what you love — so this year I’m going to focus on booking long term stays and reduce my weekend getaways.
Slow Travel is a way of life that gets you thinking of travel differently. When travelling slow, we take the time to get to know local villages and cities that we miss out on when travelling to somewhere new for a week(end).
It allows us to switch up the jam-packed busy trips to a more relaxed way of travelling. Immerse yourself with new cultures, learn from locals rather than ticking off 30+ must-sees from your to-do list.
Slow travel is the best way to travel — you can prioritise experiences over tourist attractions.
Travel Light
As a nomad, my belongings are pretty minimal as I can’t fit an entire house of clutter into my suitcase each time I go somewhere, so over the years I’ve found myself trimming down my belongings. I’ve now got a selection of items that I love and question myself when I go to buy something new or pack something different… “do I really need it, or do you just want it?”
Challenge yourself to filter through everything you own and see if you can travel with the bare minimum. Think about packing clothes you can wear as multiple outfits, rather than needing a new outfit for every day… and do you really all those toiletries?
Travel Sustainably
I’m not sure it's possible to travel the world with a clear conscience, especially as our climate crisis deepens but it's possible to be more mindful of the situation and make small changes along the way. There are definitely ways to be more eco-friendly and travel more thoughtfully whilst on the move. Travelling less, for longer is a perfect example of a step in the right direction. Slow travel means less time spent on planes, contributing locally and having less of a negative impact on the world.
Consider travelling locally or taking a train instead of a plane.
Take breaks
I’m going to listen to my body and give it the rest it needs when it needs it. We need to give ourselves the opportunity to relax, recharge and return to work (or anything else you need a break from) full of new energy and focus.
We can’t run on full energy 24/7 and we should not feel guilty for taking a break, booking time off work for a holiday or asking to stay in bed when we’re sick.
Our bodies will crave rest, we need to get creative and feel productive again — so book that time off and relax. Don’t underestimate the power of taking a break.
Live In The Now
Life passes us by fast, and the older we get, the more we realise this. I’m going to make a conscious effort to live in the present and focus on every moment and make new memories. I’m going to savour all moments, appreciate my surroundings, being more mindful each and every day.
2022 is my year of saying YES! 2022 is me living my best life.
