My Earnings Report in June After Writing 33 Articles is Surprising!

Should you write more to get paid more?

Last month, I decided that I would aim to write more articles for June. The good news is that I succeeded. I ended the month by writing 33 articles.

If you are a new writer, you may automatically assume that the more articles you write, the more money you make. Unfortunately, it does not work that way on Medium. At least for me.

I wrote fewer articles in April and earned a lot more than in the month of May. The good news is that the more you write, the easier it is to find new article ideas. I almost never have trouble finding something to write about.

Although my earnings are disappointing, it’s clear that nothing is ever guaranteed at Medium. It’s just one of life’s many lessons.

How did you do last month? Everyone’s journey on Medium is unique because everyone has different articles and viewpoints. Some articles may naturally get more views. I am noticing that many tech writers are making a good income on Medium and that’s great for them. I believe that we should not write for the tech market if we are not interested in this area. We, as writers, should discover our own styles and interests.

Writers, like artists, need resilience. There are millions of artists who paint and pursue their art for the sheer joy of painting, even if there is no money in it.

The most famous artist that comes to mind is Vincent Van Gogh. This incredible artist never got to receive the millions in his lifetime that his paintings have earned for their collectors.

If you are struggling to earn money for your writing, take heart and relax. Many experienced writers on Medium say that it takes many years to see any significant results for your writing.

I finished the month writing 33 articles and earned just $70 US. During this period, I experienced several breakthroughs.

Near the end of the month, I was recognized by Medium as a Top Writer on the Internet of Things and several of my articles got distributed or curated. This has never happened to me before! So even if my earnings tanked, I am learning how to improve my writing, and hopefully, this will help me get more audience for my articles.
