My Anchor

A poem for my husband whose eternal love and understanding means the world to me.

Photo taken at wedding and uploaded by author for Jessica’s Quill.

My tale begins long ago, When once I was a solitary soul, A lonely wanderer off the beaten track, Home, I did struggle to get back.

Until a hand reached out for mine, To walk together for all time. An anchor, he offered to be. To help guide me through treacherous seas. Like a lighthouse, he guides me home. When I see his light, I know I’m not alone.

We can navigate through any storm, Like a warm, thick blanket, he keeps me warm. Like a constellation, he shows me the way, When I get lost, or go astray,

He throws me a rope, to hold as a lifeline, Whenever I feel the slippery hands of time, Where once I was scared and unsure, I know he’ll be with me forevermore.

My journey with a heart forlorn Ended when came the new dawn, With it my love, my soul’s other part, Who keeps safe my gentle heart.

“Journey’s end with lovers meeting” — The Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare.

Yesterday I posted a poem for my daughter. Today I wanted to pay tribute to my husband and my best friend in the world. As an Autistic woman, I’ve struggled my whole life to find someone who gets and accepts me as I am, flaws and all but he does entirely.
