WALKING ROUTE 66

Mister Weirdo Discovers Normal

The City of Normal that is.

It was a gorgeous day. People were jogging and riding bikes as walked on the new Route 66 Hike/Bike trail.

Someone had shared the story from the Newspaper on the social pages for Normal/Bloomington on Facebook. Kenny saw that I would be walking from Lexington to Normal. He and his daughter Anna found me as I was resting near Towanda. I saw a couple twice, as they rode up and down the Parkway.

Half an hour later, Kenny was back with the whole family. They brought me fresh tomatoes from their garden. Mom had some errands to run; dad and the kids wanted to walk along with me. They were a bundle of curiosity, and I was glad to have someone to talk to for a change.

I learned that there is an Anytime Fitness in Normal. I love my gym. They have almost 2500 units all over the country, and you can go to any one of them anytime you like. Each unit is individually owned, and they take care of it very well.

Jeff and Michelle were there doing some repairs and maintenance. Jeff came by to say hello as I was resting in the waiting area. He saw my profile on the computer when I used my fob to enter. They never had anyone from Texas visiting them before.

Here is an older story about Anytime Fitness I had recorded a couple of years earlier.

Jeff and Michelle found a laundromat nearby, and while the clothes were in the wash, I got online.

“Hi, Rasheed. You don’t know us but my husband and I rode by you twice today on the new Route 66 bike/hike trail in Towanda. You were sitting on a bench we spoke both times we passed but we had no idea about your journey until I just now read the article in the Pontiac newspaper here on FB. Gosh, we would have loved to have bought you lunch and been able to chat with you. We ate at a grill there in Towanda!! Best of luck on your journey so sad to have not been able to hear of your travels. Many blessings to you!! Becky and Dave Reed”
