Meet Desiree, the Editor Me

And get a glimpse of the rest of me. Who are you? Glad to meet you!

Writing, editing, and giving workshops Authentic Storytelling. I love it all. And luckily I’ve met a great bunch of people in the Illumination editor group who love the same things.

Words and images flow in and out of my brain all day. And in between, I get a glimpse of the abundant future that we might create together.

I work with designers, technologists, educators, and entrepreneurs towards a sustainable future. I create healthy soil with my own two hands in permaculture and regenerative farming projects and create healthy buildings in partnerships with designers, architects, and entrepreneurs.

Recently, I joined the Illumination editor’s group after having already been active on the sidelines for a while. So now I enter the stories of others and help them spread their seeds. Seeds of joy. Seeds of pain. Seeds of wisdom.

Sometimes my heart makes a little jump because I find a precious seed of wild women wisdom. Those I love the most because I believe in rewilding our souls. Becoming the free spirits who we are meant to be on this earth.

I write about it. But in my editing job, I will not bore others with it. Not everyone is on the same part of the journey as I am.

But I won’t hide it either. This is me. All of me.

As my online friend, it will be hard to really know all of me. But we can at least try to share little glimpses.

I’m Dutch. I’m bilingual. Living in the Netherlands and Europe and the world. Traveling for my projects and then staying for longer in communities of changemakers.

In my former life (I’m in my third phase now) I gained a lot of business experience as a commercial manager, marketing manager, and communication consultant.

Now, I’m only using these skills for impact. For change. For a sustainable world where co-creating citizens, impactful entrepreneurs, and wise governments make a difference.

I live with Mike in a small village. Or rather in the woods. Our family consists of my mum and his two daughters and our three adrenaline-bomb grandsons.

My editing tips will vary from practical writing stuff to marketing tips. Because no writer becomes a famous writer when they do not dare to get out there and have the discipline to do some hard work.

Spread their own seeds. And help to spread other seeds that inspire them.

Illumination-main gives every writer a chance to learn. All subjects are welcome (within Medium rules). No writer is refused. But we challenge you to become better writers every day.

You can learn from other writers, from the editors, and from the marketing specialists. We share successes. And we are convinced that success starts with giving. It starts with reading, with true connection, with making friends. We’re a bunch of friends at Illumination, so you are most welcome to reach out and become part of it.

Illumination-curated has somewhat higher editorial standards. We challenge you to submit only your best work. Work that would meet the standards of Medium-curation. But if it isn’t curated and does meet high standards, we will Illumination-curate it anyway. And give you wide exposure.

We enhance visibility via our other channels all over the internet. Quora, Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn. You name it and we are there.

So, what about me? I’m sharing my writing and marketing experience in our Slack group. And I read as many stories as I can muster in a day. Giving quality-adding comments. Adding courage. And building friendships every day.

Writing My Way through Life

My writer-journey started young. My first published story was at the age of 26 in Cosmopolitan. I’m still trying to find the time to translate the story into English as I promised my readers in my longer biography.

My editing journey is a mix of Dutch professionalism in my (international) jobs and my Authentic Storytelling workshops in the English language. I just love to help changemakers strengthen their stories and become even more successful than they already are.

My own theme is Gaia, Mother Nature, Ecology. I just love her influence on our lives. I love her abundance. I love her inspiration. I love how she gives us wisdom for economic transition, innovation, and design.

And if I write about personal development, I structure it as a Heroine’s Journey. Emerging wisdom from within. Presenting it outside in an honest, authentic, and transparent way.
