Summary
A Medium Publication Editor (MPE) has been murdered, sparking an investigation into a possible serial killer targeting MPEs, amidst a climate of writer dissatisfaction and exploitation within the Medium platform.
Abstract
The body of a 37-year-old Medium Publication Editor with a significant following was discovered in his Los Angeles residence, having been stabbed multiple times. The murder may be linked to a series of killings targeting MPEs, with notes left on the knives suggesting a connection to disgruntled Medium writers. The victim, once a failed author, had become a successful editor after his writing guide received widespread criticism. The incident has brought to light the harsh realities faced by Medium writers, including low earnings and exploitation, while editors are well-compensated. Police are investigating whether the Medium platform is involved in illicit activities such as money laundering and drug trafficking, and whether the company's vast wealth is being used to fund these operations. The murder has prompted increased security measures for other MPEs and surveillance of Medium writers.
Opinions
Police are investigating the alleged murder of a Medium Publication Editor (MPE) in the early hours of this morning.
The victim was found in his luxurious residence in the suburbs of Los Angeles. The victim was aged 37 and was well known in publishing circles. He was spectacularly unsuccessful with his writing guide
It had 1,251 one-star reviews on Amazon and 5 reviews with 2 stars.
After this, Medium approached him to become a publication editor. The managers felt that his failure would make him a sympathetic listener to writers on Medium.
As an editor, he was a rising star. His publication on Medium has 2 million followers. Many MPEs have been murdered recently and police now suspect that a serial killer (probably a Medium writer or a gang of Medium disgruntled and violent writers) may be responsible.
It is estimated that there are 15,000 Medium publications and there are 1 million Medium writers starving to death globally.
The man was found near his swimming pool and had extensive injuries. The victim died of multiple stabbing wounds but each wound had a knife in it with a bloody note attached. They read as follows and police are trying to establish if this is a secret code or an encrypted Medium algorithm.
“I had to wait two weeks for your rejection and lost 50 cents in earnings.”
“My brilliant story was rejected by you so you deserve to die.”
“You cannot even send an automated reply to thousands and thousands of writers.”
“You have forced me to live by begging on the streets but I am a talented writer.”
Homicide investigators are seeking the killers and have asked for witnesses to come forward. Staff at the mansion have all been questioned but no arrests have been made.
The words “MEDIUM MAFIA” were painted with what appeared to be the victim’s blood along the side of the swimming pool.
Detectives are puzzled as to why MPEs have been the target of so many murders. They have interviewed many Medium writers and they fear that other editors may be killed.
Many MPEs have been forced to pay for extra security. Thousands of Medium writers are under surveillance.
But the Medium HQ (Medium Mega Mansion) in New York has been searched and police have seized assets worth $150 billion.
There are suspicions that the Medium billions have been used for money laundering, bribery, and drug trafficking. Medium editors have been paid whopping salaries while they exploit Medium writers who earn miserable royalties. The average monthly salary for a Medium writer is $9.72.
Many Medium writers have been locked up in Medium curation jails which are thought to be in the basement of Medium Mega Mansion.
Police investigations are continuing.
