Medium Has A Daily Commenting Limit!

Yes. Unfortunately, it is confirmed that there is a limit to how many daily comments you can post.

If you have read my recent posts, by now you would know how much importance I place, on making an effort to engage with other writers. Especially in relation to earning money.

I explain the importance of reading other writers’ posts in more detail here.

I mentioned in the above link, that commenting on articles hold less significance, compared to truly READING an article. This was in the context of achieving monetary gain.

We earn money based on the duration spent by medium members, reading our articles.

I’ve since come to appreciate that commenting on others’ articles, are still important. Equally important.

While commenting on others’ articles does not directly earn the writer money, it shows the writer that you valued their piece.

However, there has been speculation that the time you spend reading comments, could be considered as time spent reading the writer’s article. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Anyway…

The comment section is a valuable avenue for you to share your thoughts, insights, related experiences and feedback…

Which are pivotal in forming connections with other writers.

Commenting Builds Relationships

It is within the comments section, where relationships are built.

Personally, there are countless of memorable comments on a number of my articles, that truly pulled on my heart strings. Articles that I personally and emotionally found, quite difficult to write.

To this day, these are the comments I have received, that I will never forget.

I will never forget the comment, and I will never forget the writer who wrote the comment.

I still recall opening the comment section to said articles, and feeling completely overwhelmed.

Overwhelmed with gratefulness, that people were willing to take the time out of their day, to share their words of comfort.

You could probably make out which comments they are: ‘I Was Teased For Having A Dead Dad’ ‘My Depressing Experience With One Sided Love’ and ‘Part 2’ ‘Having Acne Has Destroyed My Confidence’

Since having this realisation, I have now been making an active effort to spend a lengthy amount of time each day, not only reading… but commenting on others’ articles too.

And I’m not referring to comments such as: “Good job”. “Great”. “Cool read”.

If I am enjoying the read, I will let the writer know why. I will share my insights. I will share my thoughts. I will ask questions.

And as a result, I genuinely feel so much more connected to my fellow medium writers on this platform.

Especially when this is reciprocated.

OK, So What is The Limit?

To my dismay, I’ve come to the realisation that there is a commenting limit! I discovered this when I realised that my comments weren’t posting…

…Instead, they ended up in my drafts!

I was extremely confused.

I sent a query to Medium and received the following response:

Interesting.

100 comments. 100 comments per 24 hours is what Medium allows.

I was actually quite shocked that I had even reached posting 100 comments for that day. I often find myself in never ending binge reads, so I guess exceeding 100 comments made sense.

On the bright side, Medium did lift the ban quite promptly.

I assume the 100 comment limit is in place to deter spam messages, or bots from spam messaging? I’ve never seen bots on Medium come to think of it.

Well anyway… there you have it, folks!

What are your thoughts on Medium’s commenting limit?
