Marvel Rivals Is a Brand New Hero Shooter Game Featuring Marvel Superheroes

It looks like Overwatch but with Marvel superheroes instead.

In some of my earlier stories, I’ve chatted about all sorts of Marvel stuff. You can find those linked at the end of this post. Today, though, I want to talk about this cool new game coming out called Marvel Rivals. It’s basically like Overwatch but with all your favorite Marvel heroes!

Marvel and NetEase Games are teaming up to bring us Marvel Rivals, a new multiplayer hero shooter featuring the iconic superheroes and supervillains from the Marvel Universe.

This game is all about intense team-based action, as two teams of six heroes battle it out on diverse maps inspired by locations like Asgard and Tokyo 2099.

The developers behind Marvel Rivals are no strangers to the gaming world, with experience from major franchises like Call of Duty and Battlefield.

If you’re a fan of Overwatch, you’ll feel right at home with Marvel Rivals’ free-to-play model and ever-expanding roster of heroes and villains. What sets this game apart is its third-person perspective, giving you a fresh way to experience the Marvel Universe.

So far, Marvel Rivals has revealed eighteen characters, including favorites like Hulk, Black Panther, and Spider-Man, as well as more unexpected picks like Luna Snow and Peni Parker.

The game promises a thrilling experience, with players able to team up to unleash devastating combination moves.

The announcement trailer gives us a taste of the epic battles to come, with each character showcasing their unique abilities. Doctor Strange opens portals for strategic movement, while Loki shapeshifts into other characters to gain their powers.

Spider-Man, true to form, uses his web-slinging prowess to entangle enemies, and Black Panther calls upon the mighty Bast to crush his foes.

Thaddeus Sasser, the game director, is excited about the game’s potential, especially the chance to embody your favorite Marvel hero in a multiplayer setting. He emphasizes the game’s diverse range of powers and playstyles, ensuring that each character feels unique.

While there won’t be rigid class roles, players can expect heroes to fall into categories like tank, DPS, and support to help strategize their team composition.

Final Words

Marvel Rivals aims to strike a balance between ranged, close-quarters, and melee combat, ensuring that every hero feels true to their abilities.

The game’s Team-Up moves will range from simple combos to more intricate maneuvers that require skill and coordination.

Developers are still refining the game’s mechanics, including character selection and team restrictions, but eager players can look forward to trying out Marvel Rivals during its alpha test in May.
