Summary

The website content is a call to travel writers to explore and write about the beauty of nature in their own backyards, emphasizing that travel can be a local experience and not just about distant destinations.

Abstract

The "Travel Writing Prompt" on the website encourages writers to shift their focus from international travel to the exploration of nature close to home. It suggests that travel begins right outside one's door and that beauty and wonder can be found in the immediate environment. The prompt is a response to the challenges of long-distance travel, inspiring writers to use all their senses to observe and describe the natural world around them. Writers are invited to share their experiences and use the hashtag #exploreyourbackyard to participate in the community initiative. The website also congratulates winners of a previous writing prompt, #hometowntourist, and announces the benefits of priority publishing for the winners of the new nature-focused prompt.

TRAVEL WRITING PROMPT

Let’s Explore our own Backyard and Beyond

A writing prompt on exploring nature

When we talk about travel we think of far-away places, exotic beaches, and world-famous cities. But travel is more than just being a tourist in a foreign country.

Traveling starts the moment we step out of our door. Traveling is about exploring the new, the unknown. It’s about looking for beauty in life, which we usually only do when we’re on holiday in the tropics or elsewhere.

But this beauty can be found much closer to our home, too. For example, right in your backyard or where your backyard ends. Nature has endless forms and features that will amaze us if we just start looking for them. All we need is open eyes and ears.

In times when long-distance travel is more difficult than ever, I encourage you to explore nature around your home. You’ve demonstrated in the last writing prompt lots of creativity. You can explore on foot, by bicycle, by boat, or whatever transport option suits you.

While the previous prompt was more about cities, architecture, and civilization, I want you to shift your focus this time onto nature.

Looking for the beauty in life in your own backyard.

Walk around with open eyes, ears, and feelings. Describe which sounds you hear, which animals you spotted, and what vegetation features fascinated you the most. Don’t forget to add the hashtag #exploreyourbackyard at the end so we can recognize who’s joining the writing prompt.

Our last writing prompt took off like a bird. More than 10 fascinating articles were submitted to the topic of #hometowntourist. We were amazed by the variety and diversity of articles submitted.

All six of the World Traveler’s Blog editors sat down and read each piece in order to pick our favorite one. As promised, I’m announcing the winner of the first writing prompt of the World Traveler’s Blog today. The winner is getting one of the services offered in our Patreon package: Priority publishing.

The next article the winner submits will be published by us in under 24 hours.

Choosing the best story of the #homtowntourist was anything but easy. Each editor announced the two favorites and then we had to count the points.

Our editor Georgina Nelson got the most votes for her article “Reverse Culture Shock and Relearning the Meaning of Home”.

But, to honor our loyal writers we decided to cut her out of the running for Priority Publishing. There were two runners-up who received the same number of votes.

The winners are Kevin Alexander and Hela!

Their brilliant responses to the prompt are listed below:

Congrats to both winners! Your next travel article will be given priority by our editors.

This is a shout-out to all writers who took part in the writing prompt. Thank you for joining! We loved seeing the excitement in the community and enjoyed reading all your pieces:
