TEACH ONLY LOVE

Let Hope Hold Sway In Our Heart

When the odds seem stacked against us, hang on hope for inspired motivation

THERE is nothing more edifying than a life rife with hope.

With life imbued with hope, we go to bed with a smile on our lips. We wake up to new mornings, seeing fresh days getting brighter, seeing grass on our patch becoming greener.

When we allow hope to hold sway in our hearts, we let go of the veil of darkness that blocks the light from shining on us.

We go through the day with spring in our steps, we push ourselves with renewed zest towards all our efforts.

Without hope, we would have been deprived of Carrie had Stephen King given up pitching this novel. Stephen King’s Carrie was rejected 30 times, but he didn’t give up.

And talking about rejections — J.K. Rowling’s manuscripts were rejected by more than a dozen publishers.

Had she lost her hope and determination, she wouldn’t be where she is now — richer than the queen — and the world losing out on the pure pleasure, of reading the Harry Potter books and watching the films.

It was also hope and resolve that led Steve Hydes, Rachel Selby, and Andy Hallsworth to search for their birth parents.

The three were abandoned as babies: Hydes at Gatwick Airport; Selby at the doorstep of Reverend Peter Morgan’s house in Liverpool; Hallsworth outside a Catholic church somewhere in London.

Or what about the case of Lindsey Freeman?

She got ill after a miscarriage. After two years, she was diagnosed with a very rare, newly-identified, incurable condition caused by abnormal lymphatic vessels that often cause life-threatening bleeding called Kaposiform lymphangiomatosis (KLA).

She spent five years in and out of hospitals. Doctors and experts agreed that nothing could be done, being told at one time that she was going to die.

She didn’t die. She eventually got better because she kept fighting. A doctor at Stanford said that Freeman was someone “who would not give up”.

Holding fast to hope in our hearts does not always mean expecting miracles, like Freeman, or Peregrine Laziosi (1265–1345).

Peregrine had cancer on his right foot but it healed a day before his foot was to be amputated, after a night of prayers. He was sainted in 1726 and became the patron of people suffering from cancer, foot diseases and any incurable ailments.

Letting hope hold sway in our life means never giving up despite challenges.

It means never losing our grip on the luminous optimism we need to enjoy living our life. It’s a choice that is open to all of us.

Let’s hang on to it.

Let us never lose hope.
