Deep Thoughts | Late-night Musings

In Unison With The Universe

As My Heart Beats In Sync With The North Star.

It’s 1 AM. I sit at my window, gazing into the vast expanse, Polaris illuminating the northern sky. My gaze traces Ursa Minor and countless other stars whose names remain a mystery. They twinkle, appearing and vanishing in a rhythmic dance, much like the momentary woes and happiness that ebb and flow in the tapestry of life.

The night reminds me of Noni; she used to accompany me on these late-night star-gazing sessions. She would sleep on the windowsill, and I would caress her silky white fur while lost in my thoughts. The star evokes Noni — or is she Noni — looking down upon me with all the light of the universe in her eyes.

I turn my attention to the neighbor’s tree; just two months ago, it teemed with mangoes, but now stands barren, stripped of its fruit. It appears the transient guests — crows and bulbuls — have departed after their fruitful feast, once the tree couldn’t provide them with this anymore.

The streetlamp flickers; startling the young man passing by for a second. He gazes up at the faltering light source, his expression momentarily reflecting curiosity and wonder. After a brief pause, he resumes his journey, stepping into the alternating patches of light and shadow, disappearing into the night.

I take a deep breath; the crisp, cool air fills my nostrils, courses through my throat, and seems to seep directly into my soul, quelling the inner turmoil. As I exhale, all my worries dissipate into the night.

I feel weightless, my heartbeat syncing with the universe, with Polaris. Lub dub, lub dub, in harmony with the North Star’s gentle twinkle.
