I’m Struggling Massively With My Digestion, Are You?

Food and other consumable goods are no longer the same.

I’ve had ongoing digestive issues for YEARS.

They used to be manageable, which is probably why I didn’t write about them.

But it seems my body is done with whatever has been bothering it.

I’ve seen multiple doctors, and none of them seem to be able to give me an answer as to why my stomach is constantly upset.

I’ve had multiple rounds of blood work, ultrasounds, and other procedures. None of them have been able to find the cause.

This led me to do a lot of research on my downtime, and one thing I’ve been able to conclude is that the stuff we eat and put on our bodies has a much more significant effect on our digestive systems and overall health than we are aware of.

There are way too many additives in food and other products.

Probably the one thing that we can all hopefully agree on is this.

There’s way too much stuff in food that’s not food!

Or ingredients that are completely unnecessary and don’t contribute anything to the purpose of the product.

There are ingredients on the nutrition label that I can’t pronounce and have to google to figure out what they are.

For a while, I didn’t pay attention to the label on the back of products, but now I want to.

I’m desperate to find a solution to my persistent and constant stomach issues. And if that means being more cautious about the foods I’m consuming and what they’re made of, that’s a perfectly good trade.

For years I was able to put off feeling bad after a meal. For years I was able to ignore the discomfort.

But my symptoms have become more acute and consistent over time.

It’s time to take control.

We don't want to take complete responsibility for ourselves.

All the contradicting information that’s out on the internet is overwhelming.

I understand if someone feels frustrated looking for answers or at least possible options. What I have trouble with is throwing in the towel and giving up.

Or thinking ignorance is bliss.

The reality is our consumable goods are no longer what they used to be, and too many people don’t want to accept that.

Yet they wonder why they keep going back and forth from the doctor.

I believe that God designed nature (and food) to be medicinal.

So instead of giving up and asking a gastroenterologist to prescribe me the strongest thing he’s got to make my symptoms go away, I’m choosing to fight this battle head-on and overhaul my nutrition.

I will need to change a lot of things. I’ve already stopped consuming dairy products, and I’m currently making a list of foods that are known to be irritating to the digestive system.

I will do whatever it takes to heal my gut and my stomach. I’m tired of always feeling off and less than my best.

We need to educate ourselves because the agencies we thought we could rely on clearly don’t give a crap about our well-being.

Have you come across reels or TikToks talking about ingredients that are allowed in food in the U.S. but they’re not allowed in the UK, other parts of Europe, and even China?

Fortunately, I’ve found pages on Instagram of people who are doing God’s work, warning us about these ingredients and finding substitutes that we can safely consume.

@lilsipper and @realfoodology — they are both on Instagram and post very informative content about the different ingredients added to food that can be the root of a multitude of health problems.

It’s up to us to take charge of our health and well-being.

There’s a plethora, thankfully, of resources, primarily the internet, that can help educate us on this topic.

There are also holistic doctors who can help in this manner. I was recommended one, and I’m hoping she’ll be able to help me.

Having the advice of an expert along the way is a great way to shorten the learning curve.

I’m also very fortunate to be in a financial position to afford this kind of care because, unfortunately, insurance doesn’t cover it.

Which I find ironic, considering it’s holistic, using food, vitamins, and mineral supplements to help fix whatever may be going wrong. I think this should be the first line of defense — but that’s another story.

If you’re also struggling with your health and your gut, you’re not alone.

If you think you’re crazy or there’s something wrong with your body because you can no longer consume the foods you like, you’re not.

It’s these companies trying to cut costs no matter the impact on people's health.

It’s not your body that’s not working, it’s the food that has changed, and it’s basically no longer food. It’s chemicals masked as food.

I highly recommend following the Instagram pages I mentioned above. Their advice has been a huge help in deciphering if something is potentially bothering my stomach.

I will be sharing more about this journey I’m about to embark on with my holistic doctor.

Prior to finishing this blog, I met with her for the second time, and she has chosen to take me on as a patient. We’re already working towards a plan that will hopefully heal my gut issues once and for all.

If you live in any of the five boroughs or Long Island in New York and would like more information about her, I’d be happy to share.

She’s been the only person who’s been able to give me answers and possible solutions to my health struggles.

If you’ve made it all the way to the end, thank you!
