Illuminating the Way to Consistent Writing When We are Having a Bad Day
Because bad days are common and a good day is rare

Dear Writers,
Maybe you are having a bad day. And maybe, you are struggling to get your fingers flying on the keyboard.
I know how that feels because I am feeling exactly the same as I write this editorial newsletter. Bad days and great days are determined by our emotions. We are productive on a good day and barely surviving on a bad day.
It is on bad days that intense focus gets things done. Consistency delivers value only when we crank out the work necessary for a 1% daily increment and improvements. Being emotional thwarts that.
In this editorial newsletter, I present to you 5 brilliant stories about reading and writing oriented towards bad day management:
- I Became an Achiever When I Cared The Least
- Does A Positive Attitude Really Work?
- How Did My Article End up on Top of Google Search
- Perfectionism Will Kill You

Being Nonchalant and Positive
Are you surprised by what you are good at?
Are you good at what you hate doing and surprised when you excel at them? Sevgi has an answer.
During this mind exercise, I noticed with astonishment that, as much as I didn’t like the subject, I became the most successful in that area — Finance. The opposite to what I cared about, when I really wanted to do something, it was left behind as only a dream.
The key to excellence has nothing to do with our passion. It has to do with our will to act. We excel based on our time, commitment, and work.
Take note not to push things too far. The rubber band may snap.
Your mental state is important. If you think like a winner, then you will win. If you believe you can overcome in an adverse situation, then the chances are that you will. The choice is yours.
And some argue that as soon as you adopt a positive attitude, then things change immediately. Possibilities become probabilities, and limitations become opportunities.
Our mental rubber band can snap very quickly on a bad day. Negative emotions magnify the futility of our work. On days like these, focus on knocking some items of the table instead of all.
It is okay to work hard. It is equally important to leave time for mental recovery so we can punch hard tomorrow.
Of Motivation and Mindset
These are times where our goals pull us ahead.
What we want to achieve must be so enticing that it attracts us to work even when we are in the middle of an emotional hurricane.
The article that went on top of Google for me was not written in a day, and it was never there up until later. It took some time for it to take traction and once it got into the first pages of search it was smooth sailing from there. Even at this date, I get some reads and hits on that article, not too much if you wonder, it’s around 10 to 15 a day, but that’s more than the total views I have on some other articles.

I never thought about this as a motivational trigger. I wonder how it feels when I rank on page 1 of Google search?
Our goals motivate us because we allow them to influence our thoughts and behaviors through a mental script.
Change the language you use in your internal monologue. Be extra careful about the phrases “I should”, “I have to”, and “I need to”. Perfectionists tend to “should” themselves into thinking that there’s always something more they must do or something better that they could have done.
Christina is right. We need to spend time focusing on what we want to do.
What we need to do is a weak force. It maintains the status quo and keeps life going, like paying the bills.
We want to have a strong driving force to push us ahead, like achieving the next level.
And then, there is the dimension of life beyond life.
Ten hours post conversation with the fluorescent lights, one friendly Emergency Room doctor deemed me fit to be sent home. Congratulations, the treatments we gave you were a success. Please be discharged and prosper on into the night.
Claire Kelly | I Flirted With Death. Now, I Am In Love With Writing.
You have to read this story.
Once we have visited the boundaries of life and death, we will be awakened to our true calling in life.
Pursuing what we want to do in life is no longer a selfish endeavor. It just means we finally understood what matters to us today and into the future.
Summary
I hope you enjoyed this editorial op-ed.
If we believe that writing is worthy of our time and future, we will find strength buried in the deepest end of our mind to continue even when we are dealt a bad hand.
Remember, when we feel down, having something done always uplifts our spirits.
Happy Writing, People.
