I Surpassed Last Month’s Medium Income in 7 Days (KDP Blog: Jan 8, 2024)

I’ve just woken up to realise that I’ve surpassed last month’s earnings. It’s currently the 8th of January, and in the last seven days, I’ve made $61.20.

I’m astounded by the potential of this platform! I could never have imagined earning so much by simply sharing my knowledge through writing. I’ve always considered my writing skills weak, an area I thought I’d never venture into.

This is my third month on Medium, and if I continue at this rate, I should earn around $270 for the month. In December, I earned $60.42, and in November, $6.90.

I’m still new to Medium and don’t fully understand how article distribution or specific metrics contribute to income. However, here are a list of things that have helped me earn the income:

  • I talk about a business I know a lot about, which is publishing low-content books on Amazon. I discuss my daily routine, offering tips and insights for creating a sustainable business. I share not only my successes but also my challenges. Below, I’ve shared my struggle with waking up early to work on my business:
  • I strive to be authentic and not sell anything. I’m unsure if Medium allows links or affiliate marketing in articles. However, my intention from the start was to share my knowledge without expecting anything in return. I do not encourage anyone to buy anything from me or present them with any affiliate links.
  • My writings are concise. All my articles are 2–3 minutes long. While I’ve heard Medium favours shorter pieces, my primary reason for keeping them brief is my relative inexperience and the challenge of producing lengthy content.
  • I promote my Medium articles on YouTube. Whenever I write, I share it as a post on my YouTube channel through a “friend link,” allowing viewers to read without a Medium subscription. This feature is available through a $15 a month “friends of Medium” subscription. I learned about becoming a ‘friend of Medium’ from a fellow YouTuber and Medium writer, Danny. What did I get up to with KDP today?

For those unfamiliar, KDP stands for Kindle Direct Publishing, an Amazon platform for publishing physical books and eBooks. I create a specific type of physical books known as low-content books, which include notebooks, journals, logbooks, planners, colouring books, etc.

My day has just started with writing. After finishing, I’ll dedicate around one and a half hours to KDP, creating a new project for my recently-hired virtual assistant and checking on my Ads. Then, I’ll spend about an hour working on my next YouTube video before heading to my part-time job. Upon returning, I’ll exercise while listening to a business-related audiobook. Currently, I’m enjoying ‘Feel Good Productivity’ by Ali Abdaal. This will conclude my business day.
