I Felt Exhausted (KDP Blog: Jan 7, 2024)

Photo by Tim Gouw on Unsplash

I suppose we all have our limits, and there’s only so much work we can manage. On certain days, like today, I feel I’ve reached that limit.

Today, I dedicated two hours between 3 and 5 PM to KDP, aiming to catch up on related videos from my ever-growing “watch later” playlist on YouTube.

After a while, I felt extremely exhausted. I’m not sure whether it’s because I only got six hours of sleep last night, I’m experiencing burnout, or it’s due to working from my bed — a place that often leads me to feel tired.

To address the tiredness, I opened the window in my bedroom slightly. The fresh air helped somewhat to alleviate the fatigue. Additionally, I attempted a short 15-minute nap, but ended up watching random videos on YouTube instead.

It’s the end of the week, and it hasn’t been the most productive day for my KDP business. However, I think even the less successful days contribute to overall success, as long as they aren’t completely missed.

An alternative scenario:

While I’ve been more productive in recent months, there were times last year when I would entirely skip KDP sessions due to tiredness, opting to do something else instead, such as browse my phone.

I’m glad that today, I pushed through those two hours.

Should you spend as much time as me watching KDP-related YouTube videos?

The most critical aspect of KDP is actually publishing books. There’s no point in watching video after video or engaging in other activities if you aren’t focusing on this essential part. Often, watching videos or doing excessive research is merely procrastination in disguise. You think you are being productive, when in fact, you’re not.

Throughout my four-plus years of publishing, I have never spent as much time watching videos and researching as I am now. I am only doing so because I’ve recently hired a VA to create my books. Before that, for those four-plus years, I spent at least 80% of my time actively working on books.
