I Sold Over 200 Books AGAIN! (KDP Blog: Jan 6, 2024)

Yesterday, I wrapped up the day with over 200 sales again, totalling 201 units and earning $353.86 in royalties. However, this total is roughly $50 less than the previous day. This decrease is due to the fact that many of the books sold are priced low, with the lowest earning me approximately $0.05 in royalties.

Why do I price some books so low?

I never aim to price books low. My goal is always to earn at least $2 in royalty per book. However, occasionally I reduce the price of certain books for a couple of reasons:

  • If a book, usually priced at $7–8, doesn’t sell well with ads, I lower its price to give it another chance.
  • When a book’s sales start to decline, which happens quite often, I temporarily decrease the price to regain traction. Once sales and rank pick up, I gradually increase the price back to its original.

These are two reasons why I sometimes price books low, but my long-term goal remains to earn at least $2 in royalties per book.

What did I get up to with KDP today?

I’m glad to say I woke up on time. Putting my alarm away from my bed meant I couldn’t just hit the snooze button and go back to sleep. I got up and decided that the best course of action was to start my day.

I got to my desk at 7 am and worked on a YouTube video for an hour and a half. Then, I had breakfast and headed to work (part-time job). I finished at 2 pm, took some rest, and at 3 pm got down to business with KDP. I put in a total of 2 hours. This consisted of uploading A+ content my VA designed for a book and creating a training video showing him how to conduct research for cover designs. My plan is also to offload this process to him soon. I finished the session by catching up on a KDP-related YouTube video.

I am now writing this blog, after which I’ll take a break, manage my ad campaigns, and listen to an audiobook while working out. The book I’m currently listening to is “Feel Good Productivity” by Ali Abdaal.

Poor print quality in KDP children’s books…

…because KDP was not meant to be used for picture books.
